What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mechanical Designer I position at Moore Control Systems, Inc?

Essential Functions

  • Work directly with engineers and project managers to produce computer-aided drafting and design drawings from specifications, source control drawings, sketches or verbal instructions.
  • Provide guidance and direction to junior level personnel.
  • Develop project deliverables in accordance with MCSI, client, and industry standards.
  • Create complex 3D mechanical models of piping and structural components.
  • Work closely with all departments to ensure that the drawings convey the correct information and are error free.
  • Work with project management and engineering personnel to develop conceptual designs for bid purposes.
  • Provide accurate engineering and design estimates from bid documentation.
  • Review project documentation, specifications and scope of work and identify missing design information.
  • Produce field sketches and generate designs from information collected.
  • Work directly with shop personnel to problem solve or mitigate changes.
  • Check the work of other designers for accuracy.
  • Conduct efficient and effective model reviews.
  • Adhere to department and company policies, processes, and procedures.

 

Required Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2 years’ experience with piping design projects.
  • Proficient with AutoCAD, CADWorx or other computer-aided design software solutions.
  • Ability to interpret and write specifications using CADWorx specification editor.
  • Experience with isometric drawing generation.
  • Capable of producing 3D piping models using P&IDs, piping specifications, and project documentation.
  • Ability to interpret 3D piping, structural and equipment models and produce layout drawings and BOMs for fabrication.
  • Understanding of industry codes and standards.

 

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Associate’s degree in Computer-aided Drafting or relevant trade school experience.
  • Able to interpret structural analysis reports and implement changes into the 3D model.
  • Able to interpret pipe stress analysis reports and isometric drawings and implement changes to the 3D model.
  • Able to interpret and produce vessel models and drawings from Compress reports.
