Estimator

Job purpose -

Estimatorsareto prepare accurate estimates for projects including but not limited to utility work, excavation, grading and paving projects. Estimators will gather information through various sources, and perform analysis to determine the costs, profits and if it should be pursued by the company. Your job will be essential since the company cannot make profitable business decisions without knowledge of costs and benefits. The ideal candidate will have excellent numerical skills and an analytical mindset combined with a cost-conscious profit driven attitude. A great estimator must also be thorough and careful in collecting information and managing relationships. The goal is to bring profitable work to the company and find the balance between making money and acquiring work. Estimating efforts are to enhance Morgan Asphalts profitability and the estimating team’s growth.

Duties and responsibilities -

Build and maintain strong individual relationships with customers, vendors, and subcontractors

Acquire in depth understanding of the project at hand and the relative requirements (specifications)

Conduct research by reviewing documents, consulting with our other estimators, and obtaining all necessary data on labor costs, materials and production times, etc.

Creating Take-offs, Sub Bids, Cost Coverage, Pricing, contracts, follow ups, and work orders.

Creating a Back Log

Track forecast and work schedule needs

Prepare all documents for successful job handoff to Project Managers

Help Project Managers with large change orders

Manage and eliminate scope gap

Margin Management

Market Analysis

Spend time with your customers, help them to enjoy working with Morgan Asphalt (Lunches etc)

Analyze data and forecast individual sales, costs, profits and time lines of your projects

Prepare estimates in Bid2Win

Ensure adherence to all health and Safety Standards

Have a vested interest in the company’s success, and strive to improve the company’s presence in the industry

Qualifications -

Qualifications include :

Knowledge of Bid2Win Program – (Estimating)

Ability to build and maintain relationships with new & existing customers

Communication skills- negotiations, problem solving, and sales

Excellent organizational skills

Math and I.T. ability with an analytical mind set

Thoroughness and reliability

Ability to prioritize

Familiarity with financial management principles, as well as general management principles

Working conditions

Morgan Asphalt will provide an office with all necessary furnishings to perform the work. Site visits to support the field and verify quantities and measurements will be required. Visiting customers to deliver and review bids, make contacts, represent and sell Morgan Asphalt to potential customers.

Physical requirements

A pre-employment physical & drug test will be required prior to employment to ensure physical health.

Direct reports

Estimators will report bids daily to Tracking sheets and have all estimates reviewed by a senior estimator prior to sending them to customers.
