Job Description:
The Shipping and Receiving Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the shipping and receiving operations within the warehouse. This role ensures that goods are properly received, stored, and shipped in a timely and efficient manner, maintaining high standards of safety, accuracy, and efficiency. The Shipping and Receiving Supervisor will lead a team of employees, coordinate with other departments, and ensure compliance with company policies and industry regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise Daily Operations:
- Oversee and manage the daily activities of shipping and receiving operations, ensuring smooth and efficient processes.
- Ensure that inbound and outbound shipments are accurate and free of damage.
- Monitor inventory levels, conduct physical counts, and reconcile discrepancies.
- Team Leadership and Development:
- Lead, train, and mentor a team of shipping and receiving clerks and warehouse staff.
- Assign duties and manage team schedules to meet operational demands.
- Help conduct performance evaluations, provide feedback, and promote employee growth and development.
- Quality and Safety Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with all company safety policies, procedures, and standards.
- Maintain a clean and organized warehouse environment, adhering to health and safety regulations.
- Coordinate with Quality Control to ensure that all products meet standards prior to shipment.
- Coordination and Communication:
- Work closely with the production team, manufacturing, and procurement departments to ensure timely and accurate shipments and receipts.
- Communicate with the Logistics Coordinator to resolve shipping issues or delays.
- Help to prepare and maintain reports on shipping and receiving activities, inventory levels, and productivity metrics.
- Inventory and Documentation Management:
- Oversee the accurate documentation of all shipments, receipts, and returns.
- Ensure that shipping and receiving logs are maintained, and records are updated in inventory management systems.
- Track shipments and resolve issues related to lost or damaged goods.
- Process Improvement:
- Identify areas for improvement in shipping and receiving processes and implement new procedures to enhance efficiency and productivity.
- Stay informed on industry trends, best practices, and new technologies to enhance shipping and receiving operations.
Qualifications:
- Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree in logistics, supply chain management, or related field preferred.
- 5 years of experience in shipping, receiving, or warehouse operations, with at least 1 year in a supervisory role.
- Skills & Competencies:
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with Enterprise Resource Planning system (ERP), inventory software, and shipping systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot issues, solve problems quickly, and make sound decisions under pressure.
- Knowledge of shipping and receiving processes, logistics, and freight management.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand or walk for extended periods.
- Comfortable working in a warehouse environment, including operating forklifts and other material handling equipment.
