What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Interpreter position at Morton Comprehensive Health Services?
Provides accurate interpretation of critical medial information in direct service to physicians and/or other health care providers who are seeing patients who cannot speak or understand English, when specifically required by the providers. During times of not providing medical interpreting the position is responsible for handling front office reception and scheduling duties, including greeting patients, registering new and established patients, answering phones, scheduling patient appointments, creating patient accounts and charts, collecting, and verifying patient insurance information, and collecting patient payments.
- High School Diploma / GED required
- Certification as a medical interpreter by the Ricarti Group (Tulsa Community College) or similar group.
- Associates degree preferred or with three years of experience in health care or related human services field.
- Fluent in Spanish and English.
- Experience in medical billing (ICD-9/CPT Coding and medical terminology) preferred.
- Spreadsheets (Excel or Lotus) and Word processing (MS Word, Word Perfect) preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and customer service oriented.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to interact and communicate with people in person and over the phone in a professional manner.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and efficiently with staff and the public.
- Good oral, written, and listening communication skills.
- Ability to multi-task, work independently and as part of a team, and manage multiple projects.
- Professional appearance and demeanor.
- Required to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
This position has been deemed a” Safety-Sensitive” position; therefore, Morton reserves the right to refuse to hire an applicant or may terminate an employee in a “Safety-Sensitive Position” who tests positive for medical marijuana even if he/she has a valid medical marijuana license.
