Introduction to the team
The tax specialty group (TSG) at Moss Adams is comprised of tax professionals who go beyond compliance–providing deep technical and strategic guidance to clients so they're better equipped to tackle their most vexing challenges and embrace emerging opportunity. Within TSG, the State & Local Tax team helps clients compete and succeed by staying up-to-date on the ever-changing, complex state and local tax rules. These business advisors specialize in solutions that span income tax, indirect tax, property tax, and tax controversy matters. Responsibilities:
  • Assist with management of clients and their needs
  • Assist with state and local tax consulting projects related to tax planning, due diligence, nexus and taxability studies, apportionment and revenue sourcing, voluntary disclosures, audit defense, credits and incentives, and various other multistate projects
  • Perform research and technical analysis of multistate income / franchise, sales, use, gross receipts and other state or local tax issues
  • Analyze taxpayer data and be able to identify opportunities for prospects and clients
  • Keep up to date on state and local tax law changes
  • Participate in business development activities as needed
  • Develop internal relationships within the firm and help grow external branding
Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required; emphasis in accounting preferred
  • Advanced degree such as Masters of Tax or JD and/or LLM is a plus
  • CPA or licensed attorney preferred. If not a CPA or licensed attorney, must meet educational requirements to obtain CPA or attorney license in state of employment upon hire
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis upon hire. Moss Adams will not consider candidates for this position who require sponsorship for employment visa status now or in the future (e.g., H-1B status)
  • Minimum of 1 year of related tax experience required; public accounting experienced preferred
  • Previous experience performing tax research and providing technical advice on state and local tax issues preferred
  • Experience in state and local government revenue department a plus
  • Experience with state tax planning, tax research, and tax analysis
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Creative problem solving and research skills
  • Able to work effectively both as part of a team and independently
  • Able to handle multiple priorities, tasks and simultaneous projects
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Ability to travel as needed, approximately 20%
