Mother Jones is looking to hire a back end web developer. Mother Jones is an independent news organization that specializes in investigative journalism. Our website, MotherJones.com, has seen record increases in traffic over the past several years. We are beginning a multiyear project to improve, update, and expand our operations. As a web developer, you will play a key role in helping us build a new and more powerful platform for hard-hitting investigative news.
You will be joining a small team of developers working in the heart of the newsroom. We have a strong preference for open-source solutions and work in an agile manner, with brief daily meetings and weekly code pushes. Online news is a rapidly evolving field, and the job will offer many opportunities for learning new skills.
This is a full-time position, working in our downtown San Francisco office, two blocks from the Montgomery Street BART / Muni station. We encourage a healthy work / life balance with a 37.5-hour workweek. Mother Jones has a great benefits program that includes paid health, dental, and vision coverage.
Requirements :
- Solid knowledge of one or more programming languages (Python, Java, PHP, etc.)
- Solid knowledge of JavaScript, HTML, and CSS
- Experience working with a content management system
