Position Summary : The Application Engineer I is responsible for supporting the Engineering and sale of a wide range of custom Data Center Thermal Solutions and related cooling systems. The support provided includes the development of new products, pre-sale technical support, answering product application inquiries, and quality control. This role has a strong impact on the success of the Data Center Cooling Systems business and requires an engineering background with knowledge in thermodynamic, electrical, and industrial controls principles.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and implement appropriate solutions.
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Review product design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, and customer contract requirements, and related specifications.
- Participates in the design and engineering of new products utilizing phased or stage-gate scheduling techniques.
- Works with the production team on making product design changes to improve quality, productivity, or other operational objectives.
- Coordinate activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling and resolving engineering design and test problems as they arise.
- Reviews and approves production drawings / specifications, adding recommendations to enhance design, reduce costs or increase production efficiency.
- Prepares all documentation necessary for production as well as customer support. (proposals, quotes, drawings, BOM, schematics, product selections, manuals, technical instructions, etc.).
- Works with suppliers and outside engineering consultants to resolve technical and supply issues, improve system features and capabilities; investigates sources of special equipment, material, or devices. Obtains quotes, prepares requisitions and qualifies supplier components.
- Able to assist in multiple ongoing projects and meet project task deadlines as assigned by Sales, Operations, and Management.
- Ability to read, interpret, and communicate wiring diagrams, program logic, and electrical schematics.
- Execute proper root cause and corrective action methodology.
