The IT System Support Specialist performs a full range of system administration functions requiring a technical computer support background. Responsibilities include installing and configuring network devices; diagnosing and resolving communications, hardware, and operating system problems; and ensuring IT devices and infrastructure follow department security policies and best practices. Work is performed under limited supervision.

Essential Functions:

· Actively monitor help desk queue while taking care of tickets in a timely manner.

· Periodically tests backup systems and produces a monthly report of test results for the SINSA.

· In conjunction with the SINSA, maintains and updates a database of all agency passwords.

· Efficiently configure PCs in accordance with the department's system deployment checklist.

· Troubleshoot and repair all telecom necessities including; phone/fax lines, data lines, and wireless connectivity. Repair includes re-termination of faulty connections, replacement of faulty cable or device, or calling a vendor with approval of the SINSA if the scope of repairs falls beyond the department's capabilities.

· Works with vendors and consultants, with approval of the SINSA, to diagnose and repair anything that falls outside of the department’s capabilities.

· Set up workstations where cables and devices are neatly managed in an effort to make the workstation look professional as well as functional and comfortable for the user. Ability to perform work requiring lifting and/or physical exertion.

· Performs regularly scheduled upkeep, maintenance, and monitoring on all agency servers.

· Actively maintain documentation and inventory of IT infrastructure and assets.

· Ensure all computers in the agency have active antivirus and that their status is reporting as healthy.

· Stay up-to-date on relevant topics by watching an educational video at least every two weeks and attending tech conferences at least once per year.

· Maintains system security measures such as access control, system accounting, and disaster recovery in order to maintain system integrity and availability.

· Determines how to attach devices to the WAN/LAN; configures devices to use the WAN/LAN for applications; and maintains WAN/LAN documentation in order to establish and maintain agency WAN/LAN's.

· Installs and configures internal hardware components such as memory, disk, and SSD drives in multi user, PC's/servers in order to maintain or enhance system operation and capabilities.

· Performs troubleshooting and fault isolation on PC's, servers, LAN's, or related system components in simple configurations in order to maintain system availability.

· Activation and deactivation of Employee User Accounts, including ensuring account(s) readiness for employee start dates and termination of access when appropriate.

EXPERIENCE

Knowledge of local area networks and wide area networks, server and client operating systems.

Knowledge of computer hardware and software and of computer system data and network security.

Knowledge of backup procedures and industry best practices. Ability to install computer hardware and software.

Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot problems in all aspects of the IT environment from networks to client operating systems.

Ability to consult with agency staff and managers on best usage of a computer systems as well as to consult with vendors on system issues and problems.

Demonstrates the ability to troubleshoot computer problems (hardware and/or software)
