Job Description:
The Facilities Management department enhances the quality of facilities projects for administration, faculty, staff, and students. Our dedicated team of approximately 140 FTEs oversees more than 2,000,000 square feet across 60 buildings and maintains over 300 acres. Responsibilities include daily operation and maintenance of the Central Heating Plant's boilers, pumps, temperature control systems, and boiler water treatment, as well as preventative maintenance on related equipment.

Job Description:

Responsibilities include daily operation and maintenance of the Central Heating Plant's boilers, pumps, temperature control systems, and boiler water treatment, as well as preventative maintenance on related equipment.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Sign the Massachusetts state log book at the beginning of each shift, acknowledging responsibility for safety and operation under a Massachusetts Second Engineer.
- Review and complete daily logs of gas fuel, steam generation, and domestic water usage, calculating plant efficiency to meet state environmental regulations.
- Conduct regular checks of water columns, low water cut outs, and high water alarms to ensure proper functioning.
- Collect and test daily water samples for boiler water chemistry.
- Inspect all equipment every two hours to verify proper operation and compliance with safety requirements set by the State of Massachusetts.
- Coordinate with outside vendors and contractors for repairs, overseeing their work as needed.
- Respond to emergencies involving natural gas, electricity, fuel oil, high-pressure steam, compressed air, and domestic water systems.
- Bargaining Unit, 12-hour rotating shift position during the academic year (September-May)
- Day shift position Monday-Friday 6am-2:30 pm during the summer months (July-August)

- Minimum of 4 years of experience in a modern power plant, focusing on turbine generators and routine boiler maintenance.
- Valid Massachusetts Third Class Steam Engineer license.
- Strong communication skills and willingness to work overtime.
- Knowledge and experience in operating and maintaining power plant auxiliary equipment.
- Ability to handle and move heavy materials.
