Job Summary
Facilitates the advising for special student populations within High School Services programs, provides interactive supports with school district collaborators supporting student success, and assists with coordination of the Early College program and the Underage Enrollment process. Guides students in the development of a comprehensive education plan that meets high school graduation requirements and student college goals and increases retention. Promotes Mt. Hood High School programs to community stakeholders and engages students and school district staff. Assists with strengthening partnerships with school districts and systematically improving program relations. Acts as a liaison to high schools and the community to coordinate presentations and campus visits.
Essential Duties
- Advises students from pre-enrollment to graduation and monitors and assists students in the transition to post-secondary education and/or training. Attends counseling and career department meetings, and works with partners to support student placement and enrollment, orientation, retention, and persistence.
- Coaches students and assists them in navigating college systems and developing student self-advocacy skills. Assists students with the development of decision-making skills, awareness of educational resources, and reinforcement of self-direction in educational planning. Assists students in addressing barriers to persistence and provides wrap-around and on-going support to students.
- Assists students in developing meaningful education plans compatible with career and life goals. Evaluates transcripts and other documents, and advises students selection of appropriate courses, interpretation of institutional requirements, and assessment of progress toward high school diploma requirements.
- Works to ensure that students maintain satisfactory academic progress and provides supplementary assistance to those who need additional support. Ensures that students are aware of important College-related deadlines and milestones and provides contacts for additional resources as needed.
- Coordinates and attends a variety of information sessions, presentations, and events in participating high schools and the community.
- Facilitates outreach and communication with students and school district partners to foster an understanding of services and benefits.
- Facilitates and conducts new student orientations, student success seminars, and program related workshops.
- Creates brochures, transition materials, student guides, forms, and documents for distribution and/or presentation on behalf of the program.
- Maintains confidential case files for each enrolled student with accurate case notes and documentation. Gathers statistical and summary information for reports

Minimum and Desired Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in education or related field
- Two (2) years of post-secondary and/or high school academic advising experience
- Experience with public speaking and/or facilitating workshops or other enrichment activities
- Intermediate skills utilizing Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in education or related field
- Experience advising high school students
- Experience in the design, organization, and execution of workshops and/or other educational and cultural enrichment activities
- Experience working with at-risk populations
- Experience working at a community college
- Experience teaching college guidance courses
- Bilingual in Russian, Ukrainian, Spanish, or other language that meets community needs

Working Conditions
Work is typically performed in a normal office environment while sitting at a computer terminal. Visual eye strain and repetitive hand/wrist motion for data entry and keyboarding functions. Occasional local travel and evening hours required.
This position is primarily on site but may be eligible for remote work on an intermittent basis. Any remote work requires prior approval and must complywith MHCC Remote Work policies and administrative regulations. Remote work must
be within the states of Oregon or Washington.

MHCC is a member of the Oregon Educators Benefit Board (OEBB) which administers Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D), Long Term Disability (LTD) and Employee Assistance Plan (EAP). The effective date of employer-provided benefits is the first day of the first full month of employment at MHCC, unless otherwise indicated. Available medical, dental and vision plans and rates are available on the MHCC intranet, under Human Resources/Benefits.
If you elect to have double coverage for a spouse/domestic partner or eligible dependent, you will be required to have the premium associated with the double coverage deducted out of your payroll check each month.
Make sure you are enrolled in the medical, dental and/or vision plans you want when you retire. Retirement is not considered a Qualified Status Change (QSC) so you cannot add or change plans at the time of retirement.
In order to ensure that a spouse/domestic partner and/or eligible dependent can be covered when you retire you will need to enroll them on MHCC's policy at the open enrollment period prior to your retirement date even though they may be covered under another policy. The College will waive the double coverage premiums when an employee is adding a spouse/domestic partner and/or eligible dependents during open enrollment period prior to the employee’s anticipated retirement date for that plan year.

The EAP provides FREE (no charge for utilization) and confidential services to employees and their dependents, living at or away from home, and all household members, related or not. MHCC employees, spouses/domestic partner, dependents and their eligible household members have five (5) free EAP services per new issue, including relationship, family, stress, anxiety, and other common challenges.
Use of MHCC Swimming Pool
Vacation
All employees must request vacations to the employee’s supervisor in writing not less than two (2) weeks in advance for approval to use more than two (2) days, and not less than one (1) week in advance when requesting two (2) days or less. This advance notice requirement may be waived in the sole discretion of the employee's supervisor.
A department may delineate specific periods during the year when, due to operational need, vacations may not be approved. Outside of those periods, if a vacation request is denied, the employee and supervisor will immediately discuss a reasonable alternative time for vacation. If the delay results in an employee’s accrual exceeding maximum limits as defined in the chart below, during the next three months, the employee will be paid forty (40) hours of vacation in their next regular pay distribution. The hours paid will be deducted from the accrued vacation time.
