JOB SUMMARY
Provides high quality instruction to students enrolled in classes that will provide learning experiences necessary for each student to meet course and program outcomes. Works with the dean and colleagues to improve student learning experiences. Performs other instructional responsibilities as assigned and determined by the dean.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Helps advance the role and goals of a comprehensive community college.
- Provides instruction for nursing theory and clinical and nursing skills across the lifespan addressing prevention and chronic and acute health issues.
- Ensures and confirms that students are appropriately prepared for clinical experiences and have demonstrated competency, in compliance with the curriculum, in the expected care and treatments to be performed.
- Prepares clear learning outcomes for each course and informs students of learning outcomes in a course syllabus.
- Supervises nursing students in the clinical setting, long term care, acute care and/or community health care activities as assigned.
- Assesses and evaluates student performance in theory courses, nursing skills lab activities, and/or clinical setting.
- Works collaboratively with nursing faculty to develop, implement, and evaluate simulated learning experiences.
- Creates a learning environment for students inclusive of diverse cultural, social, economic, and educational backgrounds.
- Collaborates with faculty and staff from other departments and divisions to promote communication, coordinate programs, and support student success.
- Supports student recruitment, placement, retention, and advising.
- Posts and keeps office hours to be available to students for assistance outside the classroom.
- Teaches at least one evening section per year as needed.
- Keeps professionally current in nursing and education by participating in professional development and other activities. Maintains current credentials or licensures as required by program or accreditation.
- Maintains active liaisons with high schools, universities, businesses and industry, or external agencies and assists the dean with program advisory committees as appropriate.
- Completes instructional duties, reports, and paperwork assigned by the dean in a timely manner.
- Attends and participates in faculty and curriculum meetings and student orientation to the clinical/lab courses as deemed appropriate by the department.
- Incorporates, as pedagogically appropriate, current technology in classroom, distance learning, laboratory and office environments.
- Creates and maintains a positive learning environment that focuses on safety, respect of clients and colleagues, and effective communication.
- Models professional nursing practices and behaviors for students.
- Participates in college service and activities outside direct instruction, such as registration, curriculum development, strategic planning, educational assessment, and completion ceremonies.
- Attends division, department, and committee meetings and in-service programs.
- Maintains and emphasizes safe working conditions and practices.
- Complies with all Board policies and administrative regulations.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Nursing or a related discipline, or currently enrolled in and making progress towards a Master’s degree in Nursing
- Three (3) years of recent experience as a registered nurse
- A current unencumbered registered nurse license in the State of Oregon OR a current unencumbered RN license in another state with the ability to be licensed in Oregon by the first day of summer term
- Able to lift 35 pounds without assistance and work without restrictions in the role of an acute care nurse for a 10- to 12-hour shift
- Current driver’s license, insurance, and the ability to be insured by the College’s insurance carrier. Must have at least three (3) years of driving history.
- Must have current Health Care Provider CPR certification at the time of hire.
- Must have documentation of immunizations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in nursing education with documented course work in education, curriculum development, and/or clinical supervision.
- Recent long term care experience and/or an interest in long term clinical care.
- Experience using a variety of teaching and assessment techniques, including the use of technology, that enhance student success.
Additional Requirements
- Must be able to pass a drug screen upon hire.
- Maintain current immunizations as required by clinical partners.

Working Conditions and Important Information
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is typically performed in a classroom, nursing skills lab, and at off-campus clinical health care facilities. Some work may be performed in the remote environment. Frequent and prolonged standing and walking during clinical and in patient care settings. Must be able to lift 35 pounds without assistance. Must be able to work flexible hours with the possibility of some evenings or weekends.
Thisis an on-site position. Any remote work requires prior approval and must comply
with MHCC Remote Work policies and administrative regulations. Remote work must
be within the states of Oregon or Washington.

Health Benefit Options
MHCC is a member of the Oregon Educators Benefit Board (OEBB) which administers Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D), Long Term Disability (LTD) and Employee Assistance Plan (EAP). Health insurance plan coverage will begin on the first day of the month following the first day of employment for a faculty member. If the first working day for a faculty member falls between the 1st and the 14th of the month, the College will provide a stipend equivalent to half of the insurance premium for the plan the faculty member selects, payable in the first paycheck after that selection is made.
Important Retirement Information:
Make sure you are enrolled in the medical, dental, vision and/or optional plans you want when you retire. Retirement is not considered a Qualified Status Change (QSC) so you cannot add or change plans at the time of retirement.
In order to ensure that a spouse/domestic partner and/or eligible dependent can be covered when you retire you will need to enroll them on MHCC's policy at the open enrollment period prior to your retirement date even though they may be covered under another policy.
Coverage for domestic partners is a taxable benefit under IRS guidelines. Appropriate taxes will be deducted from your payroll.
Other College Paid Insurances
- Life Insurance Coverage = Two (2) times the basic contract salary (rounded to the nearest $1,000). not to exceed $300,000
- Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) Coverage = Two (2) times the basic contract salary (rounded to the nearest $1,000). not to exceed $300,000
- Long Term Disability (LTD)
- Approved benefit claims begin after 90-day elimination period. Maximum benefit is 66 2/3 of monthly salary; benefit may be adjusted based on other income received by retirement benefits.
Public Employees Retirement Plan (PERS)
Consistent with PERS rules, the employee contributes 6% of their gross salary into an Individual Account Program (IAP) with PERS. The contribution is set up automatically. At the time of retirement, based on one of the following programs, a monthly pension benefit is calculated. Hired by a PERS employer before August 28, 2003 and have an active account.

Tuition Waiver Plan
The College will maintain the current tuition waiver plan for faculty members, their spouses/domestic partners and their eligible dependents eligible through age 23. Faculty members and their spouses/domestic partners will pay only course specific fees.
Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
MHCC’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is through Reliant Behavioral Health (RBH) which provides services to help people privately resolve problems that may interfere with work, family, and other important areas of life.
The EAP provides FREE (no charge for utilization) and confidential services to employees and their dependents, living at or away from home, and all household members, related or not. MHCC employees, spouses/domestic partner, dependents and their eligible household members have five (5) free EAP services per new issue, including relationship, family, stress, anxiety, and other common challenges. Employees must get a referral from the EAP for each issue for services to be covered.
Use of MHCC Swimming Pool
The College will provide a swim pass for faculty members, their spouses/domestic partners and their dependents through age 23.
Sick Leave
A faculty member shall receive a credit of ten (10) days of sick leave upon initial employment, and thereafter shall accrue sick leave at the rate of ten (10) days for working the three (3) terms during the contract year. A faculty member who works a fourth term in the summer shall receive one (1) sick leave day for each five-week session or equivalent, up to a maximum of two (2) sick leave days.
Holidays
A faculty member who works a fifty percent (50%) or greater instructional load in a term is eligible for paid holidays that fall within that term.
