What are the responsibilities and job description for the Individual Assistant, Intensive position at Mount Mansfield Unified Union School District?
Camels Hump Middle School, located in Richmond, VT, is a middle school consisting of approximately 325 students in grades 5-8. We have grade-level teams with two core teachers per team. Our teaching model includes differentiated instruction in collaboration with special educators in all Math and ELA classes. Co-teaching plays a key role in our teaching and learning approach. We are currently seeking a paraeducator to fill the role of Individual Assistant, Intensive.
This position is responsible for the support of a particular student (or two) who require extensive support within the educational and/or community setting. The position involves a variety of activities designed to support the student (s) within the classroom, school activities, or in the community so that educational benefit and independence can be achieved.
Ideal candidates will:
- Have the ability to build strong relationships with students
- Understand the developmental age group and have experience working with middle school students
- Implement behavior support plans that balance consistent expectations/ follow through with relationship building
- Effectively outline and reinforce expectations for students and hold students accountable
- Assist students with accessing curriculum at their grade level
- Facilitate with helping students build positive relationships with peers and integrating students into the classroom learning environment
- Act as a bridge with peers in various social settings inside and outside the classroom
- Follow and execute clear plans for students for both academics and behavior
- Have the ability to be flexible and facilitate/support students with sensory and movement breaks when needed
- Have experience and willing to be flexible in order to work with a variety of student profiles
- Work collaboratively with team of educators
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides assistance to student(s) with meeting IEP goals/objectives.
- Assists students with a communication board or facilitated communication system.
- Creates materials under the direction of a licensed teacher.
- Implements curriculum and materials under the supervision of a licensed teacher.
- Provides for the hygienic needs of student(s); may include feeding, toileting, diapering, and other situations where bodily fluids and functions are involved.
- Responsible for specific student(s) when on field trips and in specials.
- Assists students with work completion.
- Assists with supervision of student(s) during non-academic activities such as lunch, class transitions, recess, bus duty, etc. per the IEP service page.
- Attends team meetings as requested.
- Maintain confidentiality
- Assists with supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies and field trips.
