Position Summary
The Dean of Nursing provides visionary leadership and strategic direction for the School of Nursing. The Dean will champion academic excellence, foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment, and advance the School's reputation as a leader in nursing education and research. This role requires a strong commitment to the mission of Mount Mary as an MSI and HSI, including a dedication to increasing access, improving student success, and addressing health disparities within diverse communities.
Key Responsibilities
- Academic Leadership :
- Oversee curriculum development, faculty recruitment, hiring, and evaluation.
- Promote student success through academic advising, mentoring, and support services.
- Advocate for student learning and professional development opportunities.
- Maintain accreditation and program standards (e.g., CCNE, ACEN).
- Research and Scholarship :
- Support faculty in securing external funding for research projects.
- Disseminate research findings through publications, presentations, and community engagement.
- Promote community-based research that addresses local and national health needs.
- Community Engagement :
- Engage in community outreach and service activities that address health disparities and improve access to care.
- Advocate for policies that support the health and well-being of underserved communities.
- Resource Management :
- Secure resources to support academic programs, research initiatives, and student services.
- Oversee the facilities and resources of the School of Nursing.
- Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion :
- Create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all students, faculty, and staff.
- Recruit and retain a diverse faculty and student body that reflects the communities we serve.
- Address issues of equity and access in nursing education and healthcare.
- Leadership and Collaboration :
- Collaborate with other academic units and departments across the institution.
- Represent the School of Nursing at local, regional, and national levels.
- An earned doctorate in nursing (e.g., DNP, PhD) from an accredited institution.
- A current and unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- A record of successful academic leadership experience, preferably at the level of department chair or higher.
- A strong commitment to teaching, research, and service.
- Demonstrated experience in program development, curriculum innovation, and accreditation.
- Experience in securing external funding for research and program development.
- A strong understanding of and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Experience working with diverse populations and communities.
- Experience in leading a School of Nursing at an MSI or HSI.
- Experience in addressing health disparities within underserved communities.
- A record of scholarly publications and research grants.
- Experience in community-based research and service.
- Experience in developing and implementing innovative teaching and learning strategies.
Provide innovative, strategic leadership in the development and implementation of innovative and high-quality nursing programs at all levels (e.g., BSN, MSN, DNP).
Foster a culture of research and scholarship among faculty and students.
Build and maintain strong partnerships with healthcare providers, community organizations, and other stakeholders.
Manage the School's budget effectively and responsibly.
Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion within the School of Nursing and across the institution.
Serve as a key member of the institution's leadership team.
