Position Summary

Mount Mercy University is currently hiring for the Assistant Director of Annual Giving in the office of Development & Alumni Relations.

This position manages the annual giving program and serves as lead fundraiser for donors of $1,000. The Assistant Director of Annual Giving works to create a pipeline of loyal annual donors to support the long-term priorities of the University.

Job Duties & Responsibilities (in order of importance, most important first):

  • Manage a portfolio of annual giving supporters and prospects at all stages of the donor cycle via in-person, phone, and email outreach.
  • Plan, organize, & implement annual giving appeals including content, segmentation, production, and mailing for direct mail, email and digital campaigns to maximize annual fund donor engagement and participation.
  • Plan, organize, & implement annual giving activities for restricted designations. These could include athletic fundraising, special events or projects, and more.
  • Coordinate and lead fundraising specific events/efforts such as Days of Giving with all relevant colleagues.
  • Manage the successful solicitation and stewardship of all annual scholarship donors.
  • Create and distribute reports to track annual giving efforts. When appropriate, work with colleagues to adjust tactics or strategies to ensure a successful result each year.
  • Develop goals and the strategies to achieve them for various donor segments, such as: leadership annual donors, loyal donors, young alumni, recurring monthly donors, etc.
  • Leverage technology to solicit and steward donors appropriately.
  • Plan and execute the annual Athletic Golf Outing. Includes, but is not limited to, securing corporate and individual teams, gifts, and sponsorships, assisting with event preparation and execution as needed.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

General Classification Requirements

  • Minimum of three years of direct experience in fundraising, preferably in higher education or closely related setting.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to cultivate relationships and secure philanthropic gifts of four and five figures.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for written and oral communication skills.
  • Proven record of collaboration across a variety departments and units. Includes working with faculty, staff, students, alumni, community members, and donors.
  • Aptitude for working with fundraising database systems.
  • Commitment to maintain confidentiality and ability to work both independently and as part of a successful larger team.
  • Serves as an articulate spokesperson on behalf of the University in a variety of settings.

Specific Requirements (Necessary to fill this position)

Individual must be a self-starter, highly organized, demonstrate initiative, attention to detail and customer service. He/she must be able to handle multiple projects with various deadlines. He/she must be able to communicate with a variety of internal and external constituencies (oral and written) as well as have solid computer experience (experience /willingness to learn Raiser’s Edge). Occasionally, it may be necessary to vary the number of hours and/or specific days worked per week. Compensation will be paid in accordance with the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938, as amended.
