Be part of our fun, energetic Youth team this summer by providing storytimes at local child care centers, summer schools, and other outreach venues. You will engage with the community while getting children excited about reading. This position is a great opportunity for those interested in gaining public library or early childhood experience.
SCHEDULE:
- This is temporary position for approximately 10 weeks, starting the week of May 26 through the week of July 28 (we can be flexible on the start week).
- The position is 12 hours per week with an ideal schedule of Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 9am to 1pm.
SALARY: $16.62 per hour
BENEFITS: Our temporary staff are eligible for paid time off.
PURPOSE
The Youth Summer Outreach Assistant works with an energetic, creative, and collaborative team dedicated to providing high quality services to children from birth through 6th grade and their parents, teachers, and caregivers. The Summer Outreach Assistant presents storytimes at childcare centers, summer schools, and other community locations; assists with in-house programming; and staffs the summer reading desk.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
- Storytime presentation at outreach venues—35%
- Assisting with in-house programming —35%
- Staffing the summer reading desk—30%
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Present storytimes for preschoolers and early elementary school students
- Assists staff at in-house events
- Assist patrons at the public service desk with the summer reading program
- Prepares and organizes materials for the outreach and in-house summer reading programs
Qualifications
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma preferred. Experience with or receiving educational training for children ages 3-8 required.
