JOB SUMMARY:
The Emergency Services Navigator provides supportive services to individuals experiencing a mental health, substance use disorder, or developmental crisis. Assist certified pre-screeners in the local community hospital department by interacting with individuals in crisis and their families. Help facilitate the individual's journey to appropriate services that is as efficient and timely as possible, making referral telephone calls and faxing referral paperwork to treatment facilities as part of the overall admission process. Ensure "diversion" follow-up telephone contacts are completed and documented in the Electronic Health Record in a timely manner. Conduct "technical" review of pre-screenings and ensure corrections are completed by Emergency Services staff in a timely manner. Provide supervisor with monthly report of corrections per staff person. Responsible for scanning and attaching Hearing Outcome forms to cases in the Electronic Health Record.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Work in conjunction with the certified pre-screener in the field with faxing referral paperwork and making telephone calls to referral facilities. Assist pre-screener with completing consents, demographic, and insurance information of individuals in crisis. Assist pre-screener, as needed, when there are multiple cases.
- Conduct "technical" reviews of pre-screenings each month to identify billing errors, insurance omissions, or other errors, and ensure corrections are made promptly by responsible pre-screener. Provide an error report to supervisor each month.
- Attend Emergency Services staff meetings; keep minutes/attendance. Ensure all "diversion” follow-up telephone contacts are completed and documented in the Electronic Health Record in a timely manner.
- Review cases as assigned by supervisor.
- Scan and attach all commitment hearing outcome forms and out-of-area pre-screenings to the appropriate file in the Electronic Health Record.
OTHER DUTIES:

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge of mental health issues/substance use disorder/Development Disabilities and a basic understanding of issues confronting law enforcement and emergency services.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and public relations.
- Basic knowledge of crisis intervention theory.
- Good computer skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION REQUIRED:
Bachelor's degree in a Human Service related field. Two (2) years' related experience preferred.
Valid driver's license with a safe driving record.
