JOB SUMMARY:
The Manager I or II of Peer Support Services is a professional who leads and facilitates work with Peer Recovery Specialists and Family Support Partners. The position provides indirect management of agency-wide peer support services which includes ensuring the agency maintains an adequate roster of trained professionals to provide services. This will be achieved via training and clinical support/supervision as well as monitoring requirements mandated by the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS), the Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS), and Department of Health Professions (DHP). Recruitment, networking, and promotion of peer support services will be integral in this position. Data collection and reporting are also expected, both for internal review to identify trends and areas of success/concerns as well as external review from entities such as DBHDS, DMAS, and DHP.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Serve as a guide promoting peer recovery services by educating and training agency staff and community stakeholders about the role and efficacy of these services.
2. Provide peer supervision to promote professional development, including required competencies training as well educational opportunities relative to peer work. Supervision may be conducted via group or individual settings and will include defining and reinforcing appropriate roles as well as address the unique needs of peers, outside of administrative support, to support their ongoing recovery.
3. Assure all required certifications are kept up to date as well as any requirements associated with certifications.
4. Coordinate full initiation and implementation of required elements of grants as they pertain to peer recovery services, as assigned.
5. In an effort to support peer recovery services, offer clinical supervision to staff to enhance knowledge and understanding of the integrated role of peers.
6. Act as the subject matter expert for peer recovery services on an agency, stakeholder, and state level.
7. Oversee and provide case management or clinical services as needed to individuals who meet eligibility criteria; provide assessment of the individual’s functional capacity, determine needs, and develop treatment goals based upon assessment. Coordinate service delivery to ensure that individuals/family members receive effective and appropriate treatment; make referrals and provide advocacy when indicated.
8. Ensure the maintenance of a recordkeeping and data collection system appropriate to the needs of individuals served as well as meeting Agency requirements for statistical reporting that is in accord with regulatory standards that include, but are not limited to, Medicaid guidelines. Utilize outcome data to modify or enhance service delivery.
OTHER DUTIES:
- Serve as a liaison to DBHDS.
- Perform such other duties as assigned by supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to proactively lead project and take initiative needed to ensure all requirements are met in a timely manner.
- Extensive knowledge of mental disorders and substance abuse.
- Skills in assessment and diagnosis.
- Knowledge of counseling theories and practice utilized to treat mental illness and substance abuse.
- Knowledge of a broad range of treatment modalities and development of treatment plans.
- Knowledge of mental health programs/services.
- Knowledge of treatment modalities and interventions such as service coordination, behavior management, independent living skills training, supportive counseling, discharge planning, and crisis interventions.
- Effective oral and written communication; knowledge of general principles of record keeping.
- Good computer skills.
Job Requirements
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION REQUIRED:
Determination of job title/grade level is based upon the following:
- Manager II of Peer Support Services (Grade 15): Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling or a related Human Services field required. Licensed is required (Virginia).
OR
- Manager I of Peer Support Services (Grade 13): Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling or a related Human Services field required. Licensed is preferred (Virginia).
Lived experience relative to peer recovery is preferred.
Must complete state approved peer supervisor training within 90 days of hire.
Valid Driver's License with a good driving record.
