Position Summary
Summary:
The Cytology Lab Coordinator, with minimum supervision each cytologist individually evaluates cytologic material for the diagnosis of established cytologic pathogenesis. They refer abnormal GYN and all Non-GYN cases to the pathologist and sign-out negative GYN cases. The Cytology Lab Coordinator performs data gathering and entering of diagnosis and other data into the LIS system and also participates in all quality assurance and quality control issues with minimum supervision. In addition, the Cytology Lab Coordinator also assists at FNA procedures informing the pathologist and radiologist of the adequacy of the material aspirated, they participate in CME and QA sessions, and may also participate in research projects or presentations.

Education Required
- Must complete in-house orientation program
- Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences or equivalent degree for acceptance into an accredited Cytology school.
- Must have graduated from an approved school of Cytotechnology accredited by CAAHEP (Commission on Accreditation of Allied health Education Programs or a HSS (Health and Human services) accredited school or meet the other requirements under CLIA’88 (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments).
Experience And Skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Speaks, reads and writes English
- 1 year of full-time employment as a staff cytologist at an accredited Cytology laboratory having a doctoral level director qualified in Cytopathology.
- Operate Laboratory Information System and conversant with MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint and MS Outlook.
- Ability to solve problems
- Organized and efficient in work flow tasks
- Efficient in time management
License/Certifications
- New York State Cytotechnologist license issued by NY State Department of Health
- ASCP (American Society of Clinical Pathologists) Board of Registry certified CT (Cytotechnologist) or SCT (Specialist as Cytotechnologist)
