The psychiatric nurse practitioner is responsible for the evaluation and treatment of patients presenting with psychiatric symptoms in the inpatient, outpatient and emergency departments. The psychiatric NP works in conjunction with the supervising psychiatrist to provide direct service, assessment and disposition decisions. The psychiatric NP utilizes best practice models of care and is up to date on psychopharmacology.
Education Required
- Must complete in-house orientation program
- Master’s degree, Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Speaks, reads and writes English
- Some experience in inpatient or outpatient behavioral health setting.
- In lieu of professional experience, internship or placement experience can be substituted..
- Current and valid NYS Registered Professional Nurse license
- Current and valid NYS Nurse Practitioner license
- American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC) certification as Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
Working Conditions
