Mount St. Joseph University is seeking a dynamic and dedicated individual to join our Computer Science Department as a Term-Limited Professor in Social Computing. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in mentoring and engaging undergraduate students and will contribute to the department’s academic and research goals.
Key Responsibilities
The Term-Limited Assistant Professor will:
- Teach undergraduate-level courses in computer science, AI, social computing, human-computer interaction, and/or computational linguistics.
- Support the Department’s program-wide efforts to pivot traditional lecture-based courses toward project-based learning.
- Develop relationships with industry partners to facilitate project-based learning and experiential learning opportunities.
- Mentor students through their research projects and cooperative education (co-op) experiences, ensuring the projects align with current industry practices and research insights.
- Direct and manage teams of student workers, ensuring effective collaboration and project execution within the department.
- Contribute to the Department of Computing’s grant writing and research efforts.
- Assist in student recruitment and engagement activities to enhance the undergraduate experience of students in the cITe Scholars Program.
- Provide academic advising to students in the cITe Scholars Program.
- Oversee and contribute to program administration tasks.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
The Candidate Must Have
- A graduate-level degree and/or PhD in progress in linguistics, computer science, information technology, natural language processing, or artificial intelligence.
- Past teaching experience. Experience in teaching at the undergraduate level is desired, but candidates with experience teaching adult or high school learners may be considered. Individuals with industry experience and facilitation or educator-type experiences may also be considered.
- Demonstrated ability in student recruitment, engagement, and academic advising.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to innovate and integrate new technologies into teaching and research, as well as assist with curriculum development.
- Proven experience in conducting and managing research and development/social computing projects with undergraduate students (presenting or publishing academic work with students is ideal).
- Strong organizational skills with a proven record of accomplishment in program administration.
- Experience preparing proposals for externally funded grants.
- Experience in teaching/using AI and Natural Language Processing.
