The Assistant Director/Coordinator for Student Diversity & Engagement (CDE) position will assist the Center for Student Diversity (CSD) office in providing leadership in systemic equity and instructional practice. The main function of the position is to foster a culture of community, diversity, and inclusion and support students and staff in addressing equity issues and opportunities that impact student learning.
This position will aid in the fulfillment of the mission of the University and the department to provide a safe, welcoming, inclusive, and comfortable environment by striving to model Catholic virtues and building a community of respect, honesty, integrity, love, and compassion toward Mount students and the community.
This position will support student activities to include additional programs that are in collaboration with campus partners, to include Student Activities. This position will report directly to the Director of the Center for Student Diversity.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Program Management
- Create and deliver culturally responsive student services and programming aimed at improving student access, engagement, retention, and graduation.
- Collaborate with others to create and implement programs that promote inclusivity, engagement, and belonging (IEB). This may include awareness training, workshops, and presentations.
- Be integral in oversight of programs and events facilitated by clubs & organizations associated with the Center for Student Diversity.
Supporting Underrepresented Students
- Participate and assist in the facilitation of events held by the Center for Student Diversity during Welcome Week, and others assigned which may take place in the evening or over the weekend.
- Monitor and improve support systems for underrepresented students. This may include attending meetings and participating in divisional leadership teams.
- Be an active and present leader within the CSD office.
Student Support and Mentorship/Leadership
- Advise community members on issues related to student and campus diversity. This may include training and guiding others to develop multicultural competency.
- Develop positive relationships with students and student leaders.
- Engage with and mentor student leaders/workers within CSD throughout the year, providing guidance and support.
- Serve as a role model, resource person, and referral agent to all students who visit and interact with the CSD office.
- Serve in the role of Advisor for the Cultural Committee
Research/Assessment
- Benchmark the latest DEI innovations and research to inform best practices. This may include serving as a representative for conferences, webinars, and workshops.
- Work closely with the Director of the Center for Student Diversity to implement benchmarks and assessment guides that support effective operations, including composing reports and maintaining data and records.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Ability and willingness to work collaboratively and independently.
- Attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to multitask.
- Computer skills include proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Canva.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Familiarity with social media platforms and trends including but not limited to, Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.
- Solid organization and planning skills.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree and 0-2 years of administrative experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- A commitment to foster an inclusive and equitable working environment.
- Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
- Interest and desire to work with students from various ethnic backgrounds.
For consideration of Assistant Director (the following will be required, in addition to the above-mentioned):
- Master’s degree and 2-4 years of administrative experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Experience working with diverse students in a fast-paced student services/client services or equivalent setting.
- Experience managing and supervising staff/students.
- Experience in a lead role, including responsibility for providing day-to-day oversight of an area, leadership of a team, meetings, and decision-making.
