POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION: QRT Addictions Peer Support Specialist

Community Support Program

FLSA: Exempt

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: QRT Supervisor

SUPERVISORY

RESPONSIBILITIES: None

PURPOSE: To provide inspiration, hope, guidance, and support to individuals with a mental health condition who wishes to make a desired social or personal change. Function as a role model of competency in recovery and ongoing coping skills.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Conduct peer based activities during contact with individuals who have experienced an OUD overdose or high risk of overdose.

2. Coordinate with QRT team to assist in navigating appropriate referrals to detox, treatment, or other recovery supports as needed.

3. Answer recovery related phone calls, during and after hours.

4. Facilitate support group meetings as needed.

5. Complete required documentation and data collection.

6. Attend staff meetings and training conferences as required.

7. Assist with outreach, community education/ training, and marketing the program to ensure community buy-in.

8. Maintain contact with community agencies to facilitate collaboration.

9. Adhere to all standards for quality of care for clients. This includes, but is not limited to treating clients with respect, maximizing continuity of care, seeking supervision as necessary, and maintaining all professional ethics.

10. Maintain a minimum of 20 hours or approved CEU’s per year.

11. All other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or G.E.D. Peer Support Specialist Certification required. Experience with leadership and advocacy in the field of mental health, Knowledge of the recovery process and support services, as well as the ability to demonstrate efforts at self-directed recovery. Must have valid Kentucky motor vehicle operator’s license. 2 years of continuous sobriety required.

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to evaluate needs of clients. Knowledge of overall objectives and treatment concepts. Knowledge of rules, regulations, and laws pertaining to the care and treatment mental/behavior disorders and/or intellectually disabled. Good verbal and written skills; patience and flexibility. Ability to maintain accurate records and reports. Ability to communicate with others in a professional manner. An eclectic knowledge base.

  • Supplement and enhance the work of the Therapist, Peer Support and be a liaison with the community.
  • Provide highly individualized services in the community and promote individual self-determination and decision-making to individuals with Mental Heath issues.
  • Perform a wide range of tasks to assist individuals supported in regaining control over their own recovery processes. Interventions are strength-based and focused on promoting recovery, symptom reduction, increased coping skills, and achievement of the highest level of functioning in the community.
  • Provide peer support services.
  • Help individuals create strategies they can use when their illness may have an impact on their employment.
  • Participate in Treatment Team meetings upon request of the individual.
  • Participate in monitoring of individual satisfaction with supports, services and programs.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of current trends and developments in the field.
  • Maintain compliance with Department for Behavioral Health, Developmental and Intellectual Disabilities and Mountain Comprehensive Care Center’s Policies and Procedures.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.00 per hour
