What We’re Looking For

We are looking for a responsible, caring, and energetic individual to assist in fostering a positive learning environment for preschool-aged children on a substitute basis. While prior experience in early childhood education is helpful, we are committed to providing all necessary training to help you succeed. Strong communication skills, a team-oriented attitude, and a passion for working with children are essential for this role.

What You’ll Do

  • Substitute as Needed: Fill in for teachers, provide staff breaks, and assist with snacks as required.
  • Follow Classroom Schedule: Maintain consistency with the daily schedule across classrooms.
  • Maintain Materials & Equipment: Ensure classroom materials are age-appropriate and in good condition.
  • Engage with Children: Actively supervise and interact with children during activities to ensure safety.
  • Build Relationships: Foster positive connections with children and their families to support development.
  • Communicate with Parents: Keep parents informed when the lead teacher is absent.
  • Ensure Safety: Monitor the classroom and outdoor areas for a safe, hazard-free environment.
  • Support Discipline Policy: Help implement consistent, age-appropriate behavior expectations.
  • Respect Children's Rights: Create a nurturing environment where children feel valued and safe.
  • Attend Meetings & Trainings: Participate in regular staff meetings and professional development sessions.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift and carry children and materials up to 40 pounds
  • Frequent bending, kneeling, squatting, and sitting on the floor to engage with children
  • Standing, walking, and supervising children during activities and playtime
  • Active participation in outdoor play, including running and engaging in games with children, in various weather conditions
  • Strong visual and auditory alertness to ensure children’s safety and respond to their needs

Work Environment

  • Fast-paced, active environment with young children
  • Indoor and outdoor settings, with varying weather conditions
  • Noise levels may fluctuate, with periods of high energy during play and quieter moments during nap or learning time

Qualifications

  • At least 18 years of age
  • Must be enrolled in the Criminal Background Registry (prior to start date)
  • Current Infant/Child/Adult CPR, First Aid, and AED certification
  • Food Handlers Card

Education and Experience

  • Completion of 20 semester hours or 30 quarter hours in early childhood education or child development OR at least one year of full-time experience in a certified childcare center is preferred

Technology & Computer Skills

  • Proficiency with email platforms, virtual meeting tools (e.g., ProCare), and other communication tools

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $17.00 - $18.00 per hour

Expected hours: 8 – 35 per week
