Director of Finance

Position: Director of Finance
Location: Glenwood Springs, CO (In-person, no out-of-state applicants)

Overview:
The Director of Finance is responsible for overseeing all financial activities within MVDS to ensure an accurate understanding of the organization’s financial standing. This role has the potential for growth into a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) position. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the Director of Finance works closely with the Executive Director, Administrative Team, and Board of Directors. The role involves strategic financial management, policy implementation, forecasting, budgeting, monitoring of revenue and expenses, and regular reporting to stakeholders.

Education & Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field.
• CPA and/or MBA preferred.

Experience & Skills:

• 5 years of progressive financial management experience, preferably in nonprofit and/or healthcare sectors.
• Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
• Leadership experience, with the ability to manage and mentor a team.
• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), with the ability to create user-friendly financial reports and present them clearly.
• Proficiency with financial accounting software; Dynamics GP experience a plus.
• Familiarity with payroll software, particularly Paycom, is desirable.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, with intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects independently and collaboratively.
• Creative problem-solving skills and the ability to develop innovative financial solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with the Executive Director and senior leadership to develop the organization’s financial strategy.
• Lead the annual budgeting process and present the budget to the Internal Affairs Committee and Board.
• Manage the finance department, overseeing accounting staff and serving as a backup for all financial functions as needed.
• Oversee all financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
• Ensure the accuracy of financial records, including general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and billing.
• Partner with the Development and Executive Directors in preparing project budgets and grant proposals.
• Prepare timely monthly financial reports for the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and program directors to ensure financial transparency.
• Manage the annual audit process, including financial statements, IRS 990 filings, and compliance with audit deadlines.
• Maintain up-to-date finance policy and procedure manuals, ensuring compliance across all financial operations.
• Supervise the administration of representative payee functions and oversee benefits administration.
• Develop an in-depth understanding of I/DD benefits, including Social Security, Medicaid, Medicaid Waivers, ABLE accounts, and trusts.
• Represent MVDS on Alliance Colorado committees and other community initiatives as requested by the Executive Director.
• Oversee payroll processing and provide training to ensure compliance and accuracy.

Other Requirements:

• Criminal and Motor Vehicle record that meets company standards.
• Valid Colorado driver’s license.
• Legal authorization to work in the United States.
• Basic computer proficiency.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Proven leadership capabilities.

Physical Demands:

• Frequent walking, sitting, and occasional standing or driving.
• Occasional balancing, stooping, bending, and lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling objects up to 25 lbs.
• Regular use of a computer and standard office machinery.
• Ability to read, write, communicate, and analyze frequently.
• Ability to perform calculations and manage data accurately.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $86,320.00 - $111,280.00 per year
