JOB SUMMARY:
Works medical accounts to prepare for surgery, emergency visits, pain management or in-patient admission. Work with doctor offices to obtain any patient information for the surgery/services. Contact insurance via phone and/or web to review patient benefits and calculate patient estimate portion based on benefits. Working with several different departments directly to make sure the patient’s care is the priority.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Verifies patient information and coverage on surgical order submitted by physician’s offices prior to services.
- Contacts patients to review all aspects of their upcoming bill/benefits and secures payment for insured and noninsured patients on estimate of costs. Verifies all procedures from a financial/authorization standpoint for both Mountain View Hospital, Creekside, Grand Teton, MVH ASC locations and Idaho Falls Community Hospital.
- Verifies authorizations of procedures have been obtained and approved with facility the procedure is taking place at.
- Handles write up of ABN’s of non-covered/self-pay services and send to appropriate personal.
- The employee is required to comply with all PCI DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard) standards and other company policies and procedures for payment card acceptance and security.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
- Required to be HIPPA compliant.
- Must maintain accurate time clock punches, punch in and out according to hospital policy.
- Participates in educational programs, in-service meetings and completes annual educational requirements.
- Must maintain a professional attitude at all times.
- Attends all other meetings as required.
- Responsible, when previous arrangements have been made or a co-payment is required, to collect such payment and record the payment.

Qualifications
Education/Certification: AA or equivalent from two year college or technical school preferred
Experience: Two years medical staff office work can be substituted for education requirement.
Equipment/Technology: Strong computer skills a must.
Language/Communication: Strong communication skills needed.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concept of basic algebra and geometry.
Mental Capabilities: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Interpersonal: Ability to work well with others.
