What are the responsibilities and job description for the Certified Phlebotomy Technician position at Mountain View Medical Laboratory?
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) to join our team. The primary responsibility is to perform skin puncture and venipuncture blood collection for diagnostic, therapeutic, or research purposes. The Certified Phlebotomy Technician will play a vital role in ensuring accurate and reliable results by ensuring that specimens are properly collected, labelled, and stored as required for the tests being requested.
Responsibilities:
· Perform venipuncture or skin puncture and provide guidance and instructions to patients on proper collection of specimens such as urine, stool, or self-swab, adhering to established protocols and safety guidelines.
· Interacts in a professional, and courteous manner with all the patients.
· Effectively communicate with patients.
· Verify patient identity and confirm that each patient has a valid order before initiating the specimen collection process.
· Label and record specimens accurately, ensuring proper documentation of collected samples for tracking and testing purposes.
· Update patient records and maintain confidentiality of sensitive medical information.
· Document necessary information on the patients requisition form such as dob, specimen collection site, patient preparation (ex: fasting or non-fasting).
· Perform daily maintenance, identify, and report any malfunctions or issues on any equipment used for specimen collection and processing (i.e., centrifuge, refrigerator, thermometers, timers).
· Follow all standard safety precautions prior, during and after each patient interaction such as changing of gloves in between patients, using correct handwashing techniques.
· Ensuring safety disposal of biohazardous materials by adhering to all infection control policies and procedures.
Complete other tasks as needed to support the objectives of the laboratory.
Educational Requirements:
· Valid California Phlebotomy Technician Certificate (CPT)
· High school diploma or equivalent.
· 2 years of experience as a phlebotomist
Other Qualification & Requirements: · Knowledge of medical terminology and laboratory procedures related to specimen processing. Excellent communication skills, displaying compassion and empathy while interacting with patients. Attention to detail and accuracy in specimen collection and documentation.

Pay: $23.00 - $25.00 per hour
