Mountain West Veterinary Specialists in Layton, Utah is looking for a dedicated and skilled Veterinary Technician to join our Surgery Department. We are a fast-paced, high-pressure environment where emergency situations and compassionate care are at the forefront of everything we do. Our hospital is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, including in-house CT, fluoroscopy, endoscopy, and a full in-house laboratory.
Job Description:
As a Veterinary Technician in our Surgery Specialty Department, you will provide anesthesia monitoring, assist in surgical procedures, and provide high-quality care to patients before, during, and after surgery. Your role will require proficiency in anesthesia monitoring, drug calculations, and assisting surgeons during complex procedures. You will also work closely with our surgery team to ensure the well-being of each patient in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in preparing surgical patients, including anesthesia induction, monitoring, and recovery.
- Accurately calculate and administer medications and fluids as directed by the surgeon.
- Assist in the performance of various surgical procedures, including sterile draping, instrument handling, and surgical site preparation.
- Maintain a high level of communication with the surgical team, clients, and other hospital departments to ensure the best patient outcomes.
- Ensure proper sterilization and maintenance of surgical instruments and equipment.
- Monitor anesthesia during surgery and adjust parameters as necessary to maintain patient safety.
- Maintain detailed and accurate medical records for all surgical cases.
- Provide support to clients and educate them on postoperative care instructions.
- Participate in mobile procedures when needed and be available for additional hours as required.
Qualifications:
- Prior veterinary experience is required; previous surgery experience is preferred.
- Must be proficient in anesthesia monitoring and drug calculations.
- Self-motivated with excellent communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Availability for mobile procedures and willingness to work additional hours as needed.
Work Environment:
- Fast-paced, high-pressure environment with exposure to emergency situations.
- Flexible availability required, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as emergencies can occur at any time.
- Our team works 3 - 13-hour shifts each week with set schedules, allowing for work-life balance on the remaining days.
