Job Overview:
The ideal candidate is a NC Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) with experience in behavioral health and/or substance use services.
Key Responsibilities:
- The Peer Support Specialist may be required to work within the office, outside the office, community, school and/or within the client’s own home. Flexible hours required. Travel using personal vehicle will be necessary, and will also require a DMV background check and proof of personal automobile insurance.
- Peer Support Specialist has self-identified as a person in recovery from mental illness or substance abuse issues and is committed to his or her own recovery. Peer Support Specialist provides structured, scheduled activities that promote recovery, self-determination, self-advocacy, and enhancement of community living skills.
- · The Peer Support Specialist will serve as a role model by consistently conducting themself in a professional and ethical manner in all situations, including but not limited to promptness of completing assignments, verbal/non-verbal communications, and maintaining professional boundaries.
- · Submission of personal timesheets, including supporting service documentation for the services provided.
- · Have a working knowledge of various forms of substance abuse and common accompanying issues.
- · Have a working knowledge of rules, service definitions, and statutes governing the provision of the services provided.
- · Have or develop a working knowledge of local community resources, both public and private.
- · Set and monitor clearly defined goals for the program.
- · Maintain a person-centered focus throughout service provision.
- · Serve as a team player to the general office staff and the Agency as a whole
- · Provide services according to the philosophy, standards, values, and ethics set forth by the Agency.
- · Follow all Agency Policies and Procedures
- · Participate in all required team meetings, committees, and audits as required
- · Maintain current training and certifications/licensure requirements
Resource Navigation & Community Linkages:
- Assist clients in accessing essential community resources, including housing, employment support, financial assistance, and substance use treatment.
- Build relationships with local service providers to establish strong referral networks and ensure that clients receive comprehensive support.
- Advocate for clients in accessing mental health services, vocational training, transportation, and crisis intervention support.
Experience:
- · currently in recovery
- · self-identifies as individual with life experience of being diagnosed with a serious mental illness or substance abuse addiction
- · has demonstrated at least one 1 full year in his/her own life without crisis, relapse, or psychiatric inpatient treatment, substance abuse inpatient treatment, or criminal justice involvement
- · are not a family member of the individual who receives Peer Support Services
Qualifications:
- possess a high school degree or GED equivalent
- MUST be a NCCPSS (North Carolina Certified Peer Support Specialist)
- Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and Medicaid billing documentation.
- Valid driver’s license & reliable transportation for occasional community engagement.
- Ability to pass a background check and provide three professional references.
- Must be able to work independently, have strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical guidelines
