Exhibits Technician – Technology Specialist (Non-exempt, part-time)
Position Summary
MOXI seeks an Exhibit Technician to play a critical role in advancing MOXI’s mission. This position will be responsible for the daily repair, refurbishment, installation, and maintenance of exhibit components and computer-controlled devices, including exhibits with electro-mechanical and digital systems. The ideal candidate will be someone who:

Report to: Senior Exhibits Tech
Salary: $22/hour (20-28 hours/week)
Responsibilities:
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning on interactive exhibit components, many of which contain mechanical, electrical, electronic, or computer-controlled devices.
- Monitor the physical environment of the museum to ensure that the exhibits are operating at a world-class standard of functionality, cleanliness, and safety for MOXI guests.
- Monitor all museum exhibits and communicate with the museum staff continuously to identify any damage, malfunctions, or wear in exhibits.
- Support the Senior Exhibit Tech and Exhibits team in the planning, fabrication and installation of temporary, seasonal, and permanent exhibits or exhibits components.
- Assist in the daily organization, cleaning, and resetting of the maintenance shop.
- Adhere to existing maintenance practices and processes in a safe, productive, efficient, and high-quality manner.
- Communicate with guests in a way that exemplifies the first-class experience we expect to provide.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements, Skills & Qualifications
- Demonstrated shop knowledge and/or fabrication experience.
- Technical aptitude in repair and maintenance of electronics, including computer systems and computer networking
- Proficiency in reading circuit diagrams and problem-solving network issues.
- Self-motivated; able to work cooperatively as a team member and individually without close supervision. Able to coordinate with a small team to accomplish well-defined objectives.
- Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a creative and collaborative environment. Receptive to the ideas of others, and willing to contribute new ideas.
- Conscientious and detail-oriented; understand the necessity of craftsmanship and quality.
- The ability to follow through with paperwork, record-keeping, and documentation using established maintenance tracking software.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced, busy environment.
- Passion for creating a world-class museum that is recognized as a truly outstanding educational experience.
- Enthusiasm for working in an organization where change is frequent, structure is evolving, and flexibility, teamwork, and good humor are absolute necessities.
- Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications and ability to learn new systems and adapt with emerging technologies.
- Awareness of issues relating to access and inclusion and the ability to build an inclusive and accessible visitor experience.
- Computer programming, robotics, or video game design is a plus
- Familiarity with CAD software or mechanical design a plus
- Spanish fluency a plus.
Education and Experience requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Demonstrated skill in carefully performing routine maintenance tasks (cleaning,
lubricating, testing functionality, documenting work completed, etc.).
- Proficient in the use of hand and powered tools with a demonstrated willingness to learn how to safely use new tools.
- General fabrication knowledge and demonstrated technical problem-solving experience within a workshop environment on custom-designed objects
Additional Information
- This is an on-site, part-time position expected to work 20-28 hours per week, including either Saturday or Sunday.
- Predictable and timely attendance is required.
- Position must be able to bend, squat, and lift up to 50 lbs; work with multiple technologies; stand for extended periods of time; troubleshoot and problem solve; work on 2’-8’ ladders; and communicate effectively and courteously with a variety of people verbally and in writing.
