Civil Engineer (Bridge)

Job Summary :

The Civil / Highway Engineer candidate will perform engineering and civil design tasks for systems on transportation projects, including roadway, highway, and drainage. He or she must be familiar with civil design methods and have proficiency with design software such as InRoads, OpenRoads and Civil3D along with CAD programs such as AutoCad and Microstation.

Familiarity with codes and standards for local agencies such as NYSDOT, NJDOT, NYCDOT is preferred. The candidate should be a detail-oriented individual with strong attention to precision to produce accurate designs and plan sets. Must be able to multi-task and contribute with project teams to perform work to meet / exceed client expectations in a timely manner.

Must be capable of working with other technical design staff in a multi-discipline team environment and participate in day-to-day design activities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

• Utilize knowledge and experience to provide input on conceptual design of civil systems
• Provide design details, quantities, and cost estimates.
• Perform calculations and analysis required for design of civil and drainage systems.
• Working knowledge of AASHTO Roadway Design Specifications, and familiarity with NYSDOT and NYCDOT design guidelines
• May be required to coordinate with government agencies, utility companies or contractors throughout the design and construction process.
• Provide responses to technical inquiries.
• Assist in development of plan sets, design reports or other technical submittals
• Carries out QA / QC plan requirements and follows plans for document control
• Review shop drawings, construction methods and operational procedures.
• Prepare production drawings utilizing MicroStation or AutoCAD.

Qualifications and Skills :

Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited curriculum, or equivalent, is required.

Knowledge of civil design in accordance with current standards is required.

Must have proficiency with Microsoft Word and spreadsheet development in Excel.

Strong organizational, oral and written communication skills are essential

Excellent references required.

Minimum of 4 years to 8 years of experience required.
