What are the responsibilities and job description for the Development and Communications Manager position at MQ Foundation?
The MQ Foundation (MQF) is seeking to hire its first Development and Communications Manager to join this small and nimble organization as it experiences exciting growth. This individual will support the MQF Executive Director in development, communications and program implementation for MQF to achieve its 2025 vision plan objectives and beyond. The MQ Development and Communications Manager will be a skilled fundraiser and exceptional communicator who is flexible, creative and organized.
The MQ Development and Communications Manager reports to the Executive Director. This is a hybrid position, with the expectation to work at least one day a week in the midtown NYC office.
Development
- Develop foundation, major gift and corporate prospect strategy
- Create and oversee a grants calendar
- Identify and research foundation prospects
- Write and steward initial outreach, letters of inquiry, grant proposals and follow-up
- Write donor gift acknowledgement letters
- Participate in 2025 event planning and collateral
- Write briefing memos for Executive Director
- Assist with Board prospect research
Communications
- Standardize and streamline all messaging content and design for donor solicitation and sector/public awareness raising (collateral, website, social media, press releases)
- Draft communications plan, including Fellows 2024 and 2025, CoE, MQF, public awareness, external developments (e.g., awareness days)
- Drive brand awareness efforts among all stakeholders
- Assist PR consultant with media outlet research and identification
- Manage a social media consultant
- Assist with Board and Committee meeting planning
Program
- Act as primary contact with the UK sister organization, MQ Mental Health Research
- Investigate and identify new healthcare institution partners
- Assist in securing relationships with mental health research nonprofit organizations, using AFSP partnership as replicable model, as well as with relevant corporations
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required
- 3-5 years grant writing experience preferred
- 5-7 years of progressive experience in fundraising and communications
- Keen understanding of fundraising strategies and donor cultivation techniques
- CRM and donor prospecting database experience required
- Exceptional written communication skills
- Excellent organization and time-management skills, ability to track and meet deadlines, meticulous attention to detail
- Agile, with a cheerful willingness to assume many different roles
- Self-starter, thrives in taking charge and initiative
Salary Range
- Salary range is 75-85K, commensurate with experience.
