Job Summary:
The Career Specialist will provide career counseling and job readiness support to students, helping them prepare for successful transitions into the workforce. This position involves collaboration with students, teachers, employers, and community agencies to identify career goals, offer job-seeking skills training, and connect students with work experience opportunities. The Career Specialist will assist students in developing soft skills, exploring career pathways, and obtaining employment or internships that align with their strengths and interests.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individualized career counseling to students, helping them identify career interests, strengths, and opportunities.
- Develop career plans in collaboration with students, teachers, and parents, aligning academic goals with career pathways.
- Assist students in applying for internships, job shadowing, and work-based learning opportunities.
- Coordinate with local businesses and community partners to identify employment or internship placements for students.
- Monitor student progress and provide ongoing support and guidance in job readiness.
- Collaborate with school staff to integrate career development activities into the curriculum.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records on each student, documenting career goals, job placements, and follow-up activities.
- Provide support in developing students' social, communication, and soft skills to enhance employability.
- Participate in school career fairs, employer networking events, and other career-related activities.
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations regarding youth employment.
Qualifications:
- 2 years of experience working with people with disabilities in job development or career counseling/job placement roles, preferably in a school setting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of job market trends and opportunities for students.
- Ability to build relationships with local employers and community organizations.
- Experience with resume writing, job application processes, and interview preparation.
Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with job-readiness programs and career assessment tools.
- Experience working with diverse student populations, including students with disabilities.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
Work Environment:
This role is primarily based in a school environment, with some community outreach and partnership-building activities. Occasional travel may be required for offsite meetings, job fairs, or employer visits.
