Job Summary
The Boys Varsity Soccer Coach will lead and manage the high school soccer program, fostering an environment that emphasizes athletic and academic excellence, sportsmanship, teamwork, and personal growth. The coach will oversee all aspects of the program, including player development, game strategies, and training sessions. The coach will also work closely with the Soccer Board to share the aspect of program administration.
Responsibilities *
Leadership and Coaching:
- Plan, organize, and execute practices and games to develop student-athletes' skills, tactics, and fitness levels.
- Create a positive, inclusive, and motivating environment for players of all skill levels.
- Emphasize sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect on and off the field.
- Model professionalism and integrity, serving as a role model for student-athletes.
Program Management:
- Oversee the development of the JV and Varsity teams, ensuring alignment in coaching philosophy and program goals.
- Coordinate game schedules, transportation, and logistics with soccer board, who will coordinate with athletic director.
- Manage equipment inventory and ensure proper maintenance of gear and facilities.
Player Development:
- Assess and identify players’ strengths and areas for improvement to maximize individual and team performance.
- Promote academic achievement and ensure players maintain eligibility standards.
- Encourage players to engage in community service and uphold the school’s values.
Communication and Collaboration:
- Maintain clear communication with players, parents, school staff, soccer board, administration, and media.
- Collaborate with assistant coaches, athletic trainers, and other staff to ensure athlete safety and program success.
- Actively recruit and retain student-athletes, fostering interest in soccer throughout the school and community.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a soccer coach at the high school, club, or collegiate level (head coaching experience preferred).
- Comprehensive knowledge of soccer strategies, rules, and regulations.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with student-athletes, parents, and staff.
- A passion for mentoring student-athletes in a competitive but nurturing environment.
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Compliance with MHSAA coaching requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience developing strength and conditioning programs for soccer.
- Demonstrated success in building and maintaining a successful soccer program.
- Coaching Philosophy.
Work Environment:
- Practices and games will be held at Kaufman Fields and the William Hart Stadium turf field.
- Evening and weekend availability for games, tournaments, and events is required.
- Must provide own transportation to and from practices and games.
