Role and Responsibilities
The essential roles and responsibilities are outlined below:
- Review blueprints and building codes and specifications to determine work details and procedures.
- Study building plans and inspect structures to assess material and equipment needs, to establish the sequence of pipe installations, and to plan installation around obstructions such as electrical wiring.
- Locate and mark the position of pipe installations, connections, passage holes, and fixtures in structures, using measuring instruments such as rulers and levels.
- Measure, cut, thread, and bend pipe to required angle, using hand and power tools or machines such as pipe cutters, pipe-threading machines, and pipe-bending machines.
- Assemble pipe sections, hub and no-hub assembly, tubing and fittings, using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement, plastic solvent, caulking, or soldering, brazing and welding equipment.
- Install and test pipe assemblies, fittings, valves, commercial appliances, and fixtures such as sinks and toilets, using hand and power tools.
- Layout for wall penetrations and underground pipe systems
- Install underground DWV (drain, waste, vent), sanitary and water piping systems and extend piping to connect fixtures and plumbing to these systems.
- Cut openings in structures to accommodate pipes and pipe fittings, using hand and power tools.
- Hang steel supports from ceiling joists to hold pipes in place.
- Inspecting and testing plumbing systems for safety, functionality, and code compliance.
- Repair and maintain plumbing, replacing defective commercial appliances, replacing or mending broken pipes, and opening clogged drains.
- Handling customer queries and responding to call outs.
- Troubleshooting and resolving problems.
- Keep records of assignments and produce detailed work reports.
Qualification & Education Requirements:
- 2 years of experience as a Plumber, commercial or industrial preferred
- Trade school diploma or completed apprenticeship
- Working knowledge of water supply, heating, and ventilation systems
- Proficiency in reading blueprints and using plumbing tools
- Strong critical thinking and troubleshooting skills
- Good listening and communication skills
- Good interpersonal skills and patience
- Physical dexterity
- Valid Drivers License
- OSHA 10 preferred
