The Event Intern will work closely with the event managers to help coordinate and manage the booked events taking place at the Kellogg Center, and all our offsite catering locations.
They will ensure that the event is set properly to the specification of the client and that the event runs smoothly and efficiently.
You will oversee a team of MSU student helping ensure we provide excellent customer service and lasting memories through out the event.
Job Duties Include
Hourly wage: $16.00
Location: Kellogg Hotel & Conference Center, plus offsite locations: Stadium Tower, Breslin Student Event Center, Wharton Center, Broad Art Museum

The Event Intern will work closely with the event managers to help coordinate and manage the booked events taking place at the Kellogg Center, and all our offsite catering locations.
They will ensure that the event is set properly to the specification of the client and that the event runs smoothly and efficiently.
You will oversee a team of MSU student helping ensure we provide excellent customer service and lasting memories through out the event.
Job Duties Include
- Connect with manager and getting timeline and details of event
- Provide transportation to offsite events
- Give direction to your team on the event and assign tasks
- Ensure the event set up is to the specifications of the event order
- Connect with the kitchen to ensure food will be ready for the start time of the event.
- Connect with contact for event and assist in making sure they are happy
- Provide training and guidance to the staff working the event
- Monitor performance and give feedback
- Make sure meals and beverages are served and that customers are happy
- Make sure all service standards and policies are being kept
- Providing leadership and motivation to insure positive environment and culture of team
- Handle guest/client concerns and react quickly and professionally getting guides from manager as needed.
- Ensure bartenders are following guidelines and policies.
- Assist in tear down and clean up event space and transporting back from offsite events
- Make sure staff finish up on any stay late duties
- Make sure any add on or additional charges are added so they can be charged
- Follow up with a recap of the event to keep manager and sales updated

Required Qualifications
- Be enrolled as a student at Michigan State University (during academic year)
- Demonstrated commitment to outstanding customer service
- Must be positive and respectful, especially when serving a diverse population
- Experience in leadership or supervision skills.
- Flexible schedule with nights and weekend availability
- Ability to balance administrative duties and floor management
- Self-motivated, enthusiastic, and team player
- Good communicator
- Problem solving skills
- Eye for detail
- Basic computer skills
- Customer service mind set
- Must be able to work weekdays and weekends, football games, some holidays (Easter, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day), varying times, mornings and evenings.
- Hospitality Business majors preferred
- Completed ServSafe certification

- Walk stand long period of times

- Working in warm and cool temperatures
- 20 hours per week minimum
- Weekly schedule is variable based on operational needs and Events
- Must be able to work weekdays and weekends, football games, some holidays (Easter, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day), varying times, mornings and evenings.
