Performs analysis and application programming. Completes database and application programming projects and supports production as part of the IT Department’s Application Support Team. Contributes to analysis, design, and programming for enterprise database applications. Triages software defects and new feature requests to provide solutions that include identifying root cause(s) and IT requirements and documenting use cases and test plans.
Essential Duties
- Designs, develops, implements, tests, and maintains critical enterprise and 3rd party software applications.
- Troubleshoots and resolves application and database issues.
- Contributes to solution identification for IT related issues.
- Analyzes code to identify estimates on effort and which modifications to make
- Trains and assists users in upgrades to applications supported by IT.
- Plans and installs software in conjunction with team lead(s) including testing plans and deployment plans.
- Analyzes support requests for required system modifications to determine time estimates based on use cases and requirements, creates test and deployment plans, trains users, etc.
- Coordinates with software vendor resources to resolve system problems and implement system enhancements and upgrades.
- Collaborates with internal and external staff on projects planning and implementation.
- Supports designated users on specific applications.
Additional Duties
- Works with network and client services teams as needed to resolve cross platform issues.
- Acts as consultant on software applications and PC support.
- Provides business analysis support where needed including identifying and documenting requirements and use cases and proposing possible solutions.
- Participates in team projects to identify process and system improvements to increase efficiencies, user experience, and/or lower costs.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer-related field
- Two (2) years of experience with Object Oriented Programming languages and relational databases such as MS SQL Server, Unix, Linux, SQL, Java, C#)
- Advanced working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Microsoft products such as: SQL Server, Copilot, Sharepoint.
- Experience with Java or C#.NET
- Experience working in an end-user support role
- Experience with Jenzabar product applications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Knowledge of basic business analysis skills for tasks such as gathering key metrics and requirements and creating business process flow charts.
- Knowledge of project management basics such as project planning, communication plans, deployment planning.
- Well-developed oral and written communication skills as well as technical skills to present and exchange technical information
- Knowledge of software development methodologies (waterfall, agile, etc)
Working Conditions
Work is typically performed in a normal office environment while sitting at a computer terminal. Repetitive hand/wrist motion for data-entry and keyboarding functions. Lifting and moving of moderate-weight computing devices is sometimes required.
Position may include short notice deadlines, after hours responsiveness, frequent interruptions, and redirection of work assignment based on the needs of the College.
This position may be eligible for remote work on a hybrid basis. Any remote work requires prior approval and must comply with MHCC Remote Work policies and administrative regulations.
