Role Overview: As a Collections Specialist 1 - Legal, you will play a crucial role in preserving the assets of MTC Federal Credit Union by controlling delinquent accounts, collecting delinquent loan payments, and counseling members. You will utilize all available resources to reduce delinquencies and prevent charge-offs, repossessions, and foreclosures. Under general supervision, you will contact holders of delinquent loans to resolve their status and prepare regular reports and summaries of delinquent account activity.
Key Responsibilities:
Compliance: Ensure adherence to all laws, statutes, rules, and regulations governing credit unions, including the Bank Secrecy Act, US Patriot Act, and Fair Debt Collections Practices Act.
Member Interaction: Contact delinquent accounts by phone and mail, advise and counsel members on necessary actions and strategies for debt repayment, and help create custom payment plans.
Financial Analysis: Analyze the financial situation of delinquent borrowers and make recommendations for repossession or legal submission when necessary.
Record Keeping: Maintain accurate files and reports on all collection’s activity, including payments received on past-due accounts and tracking open legal cases.
Correspondence: Prepare necessary correspondence for delinquent accounts requiring special handling.
Continuous Learning: Stay current on collection process knowledge and trends in loan underwriting, and complete ongoing education and compliance training.
Collaboration: Work with internal members to provide the highest levels of member service and demonstrate enthusiastic support of the corporate mission, vision, core values, and brand.

Requirements
Experience: One to three years of similar or related experience.
Education: A two-year college degree, completion of a specialized certification or licensing, specialized training courses conducted by vendors, or job-specific skills acquired through an apprenticeship program.
