Anticipated duties for the Estimator role typically include:
Cost Estimation:
- Reviewing drawings, specifications, and contract documents to understand the scope of work and client expectations.
- Identifying materials, labor, equipment, and needs specific to MTN’s scopes of work.
- Calculating the quantities of materials and labor hours required for the project.
- Pricing materials, labor, equipment, and other resources for each project phase.
- Factoring in overhead, profit margins, and potential risks to create a comprehensive estimate.
Bid Preparation & Submission:
- Preparing detailed and accurate bids or budgetary proposals for clients.
- Ensuring all costs are accounted for and aligned with project timelines and specifications.
- Soliciting and evaluating quotes from vendors and distributors (subcontractors as needed).
- Ensuring competitive pricing and compatibility with project requirements.
- Collaborating with the Operations and/or Sales team to ensure alignment on the bid strategy.
- Provide recommendations on the most cost-effective and efficient construction methods.
Risk Assessment & Value Engineering:
- Assess project risks, such as potential delays, unforeseen costs, or regulatory issues.
- Identifying cost-saving opportunities without compromising performance, quality, or compliance.

- Assist project managers in tracking project budgets and identifying cost overruns.

Procurement & Resource Management:

Construction Oversight:
