About The Position:
The Psychiatric Medical Director position will provide direction to Navos Hospital medical staff ensuring safe, therapeutic, and competent patient care, including initial diagnostic psychiatric evaluation, record review and medication management occur in accordance with state and agency standards. The Medical Director will remain current in best practices and lead staff to provide efficient, effective, and timely fashion; collaborate in a multi-disciplinary framework with Medical, Clinical and Administrative teams; liaison with outside medical providers as needed; and serve as an expert resource for psychiatric care and treatment. The Medical Director will also have responsibility for patient medication monitoring, and assisting in coordination of pertinent medical care, as indicated.
A Day In The Life:
-Provides leadership and guidance to medical staff ensuring consistent and competent client care
-Drives accountability and process improvement.
Performs psychosocial assessments and mental status examinations on referred consumers when necessary, recommending follow-up and when necessary, prescribes appropriate medications and other health care
-Participates as a member of interdisciplinary treatment team, providing expertise and clinical leadership in the development of treatment and discharge plans
-Ensures quality and suitability of assessment, diagnosis, treatment and discharge planning
-Provides educational supervision and support to treatment staff regarding diagnoses, treatment planning, use and abuse of medications, health maintenance and related issues. Conducts in-service training on these topics
-Supports a system-wide understanding of trauma prevalence, impact and trauma informed care
-Fosters healing, hopeful, honest and trusting relationships for consumers and employees; values consumer voice, choice and self-advocacy.
Demonstrates a commitment to cultural competence
What You'll Bring:
-Must possess and maintain a current unrestricted WA State medical license, as well as current federal DEA/NPI licenses
-Completion of an APA-approved residency in psychiatry; MD degree in good standing
-Must be Board Eligible or Board-Certified in Psychiatry
-4 years of direct patient care in the treatment of severely and persistently mentally ill clients or equivalent combination of education and experience
-Experience with both acutely and chronicle mentally ill adults preferred
-Must have current, thorough familiarity with psychotropic medications, their prescribing, administration, and appropriate monitoring, including the assessment and management of potential side effects
-Active provider status and ongoing Board Certification
