AVID Tutor | Multiple Locations | Temporary
Hillsboro School District high schools and middle schools are seeking current college students to tutor AVID students. The AVID Elective Class helps first-generation and underrepresented students prepare for success in college and careers.
The AVID Tutor facilitates small group tutorials. Training will be provided. Tutoring is an important part of the AVID curriculum which has been shown to significantly increase academic achievement, improve rates of graduation and increase college-going rates. AVID Tutoring is excellent preparation for any role in education and is part of the student teaching experience at some local university teacher preparation programs.
Time commitment would be a few hours a week. Days of the week will vary due to school schedules. Every attempt will be made to match the applicant’s schedule with AVID Elective Class schedules.

Qualifications:

Support students in the pursuit of academic excellence and college success

Support students' organizational skills (planners, binders, notes)

Act as a role model for students with college aspirations

Effectively lead tutorial sessions with small groups of students

Communicate effectively with students and teachers

Track academic progress of students as requested by the AVID teacher

Commit to a regular tutoring schedule agreed upon by tutor and teacher

Attend a paid training session when schedule allows
- Tutoring occurs during the school day
6-15 hours per week
