MULTIVAC, a Leading Worldwide Provider of Packaging and Processing Machinery for Food, Medical, and Industrial Products, is Seeking Field Service Apprentices for our Upcoming Training Class:
This is a fully paid, two-year, hands-on program designed to provide a clear pathway to our highly skilled Field Service team.
As a Field Service Technician Apprentice, you’ll learn:
- Mechanical and electrical repair
- Vacuum systems
- Robotics, and much more setting you up for a successful mechatronics-based career.
As you progress in the program, you’ll spend your time traveling the U.S., assisting MULTIVAC customers with equipment installation, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance.

Additionally, upon completion of the apprenticeship program, a company vehicle, with fuel card and paid maintenance, is provided.
The apprenticeship program is based out of MULTIVAC U.S. headquarters in Kansas City, MO. Candidates must be located within commutable driving distance for the two-year duration of the program. (Upon promotion to Field Service Technician, most U.S. locations are acceptable.)
Hours and Travel:
- First year apprentices typically work standard business hours, 8am-5pm yet should be open to occasional schedule shifts or overtime.
- Second year apprentices spend most working hours traveling and must be willing to work outside normal business hours, including some weekends as required. Overnight stays will be required most workdays. There may be a schedule requirement consisting of ten (10) consecutive days of work followed by four (4) days of rest and may commence on any day of the week. Must be able to travel 90% with little notice as customer demands require.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Learn and develop practical, hands-on skills related to installing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining MULTIVAC equipment through class participation and on-the-job training
- Learn and develop soft skills such as communication, time management, teamwork, adaptability, and problem solving to drive positive interactions with colleagues and customers (training provided and each apprentice is assigned a company leader for additional mentorship)
- Embrace the extensive support and resources provided, reaching out for help as needed to guarantee development of both hard and soft skills, so ready for promotion to Field Service or Field Installation Technician by end of the two-year program
- As skill progresses, travel to assist senior technicians at customer sites, showing progression of technical skills related to equipment installation, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance as well as soft skills related to teamwork and customer interaction
- Upon completion of the apprenticeship program, join one of our six regional service teams to begin working in the field as a traveling technician
Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ideal candidates will have educational, or employment experience related to mechanical and electrical equipment repair as well as some type of additional customer service experience
- Ability to communicate and work as part of a team, as well as independently
- Strong mechatronics aptitude and history of personal projects or “tinkering”
- Interest in how and why things work (vs basic installation or repair) and continually advancing abilities to undertake increasingly complicated machinery and robotics challenges
- Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as addition, subtraction, division, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Basic computer experience, including Microsoft Office
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, ability to pass drug screen
Work Environment:
We work in a variety of industries, with many customers focused on food processing and packaging. Our equipment is often in messy, refrigerated or freezing environments. In addition to regularly being exposed to high noise levels, moving mechanical parts, and risk of electrical shock, you will eventually work on equipment used to prepare and package everything from sterile medical devices to recently slaughtered animals.
Physical Demands:
This is a physical position. While reasonable accommodations will be made, technicians are typically required to stand; walk; use hands to grasp, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk and hear. It’s also frequently necessary to lift and move up to 50lbs. Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
