The pay range for Lieutenant is $116,160.97 - $185,857.03 annually

Please be advised that the pay range listed for this position is intended to provide general guidance on the earning potential for the role. However, actual compensation will be determined in accordance with the Oregon Equal Pay Act and will take into account factors such as the candidate's relevant experience and education. Candidates should expect that initial offers will be made within the listed pay range and may not be at or near the top of the range.

Duties of a Law Enforcement Lieutenant include, but are not limited to, the following:

· Work collaboratively to create a positive, supportive and safe work environment for all members through inclusive communication and team work; actively promote a workplace environment that is respectful of living and working in a multicultural society by modeling the agency’s values of diversity, equity and inclusion;

· Foster positive community relationships, including attending and/or organizing community engagement opportunities; represent the Sheriff’s Office in an exemplary manner;

· Plan, organize, and manage law enforcement operations of an assigned section, unit, or project within the Sheriff’s Office, including day to day operational considerations;

· Develop, administer, and monitor a complex budget; provide budgetary recommendations and/or adjustments;

· Develop, review, and implement comprehensive policy and standard operating procedures;

· Direct and approve through subordinate supervisor(s) the planning, prioritizing, assigning, supervising, training, and reviewing the work of a diverse workforce;

· Demonstrate intergovernmental awareness; promote positive relationships and lead initiatives with various county, professional affiliation(s), and interest groups; act as a representative on committees, interagency collaborations, and special projects and initiatives;

· Mentor and coach members by providing professional growth opportunities and guiding career development;

· Work with minimal supervision and be available for after-hours phone calls; provide after-hours and on-duty command response during critical incidents or any incident as directed.

Additional Information:

· Candidates either need to be certified in Oregon at time of hire, or must obtain certification through the Oregon DPSST basic police academy COD program. Eligibility for the COD program is confirmed through DPSST and cannot be determined until after hire.

· All candidates must successfully complete a training program and a 12-month probationary period.

· Candidates are eligible for moving expenses reimbursed up to $2,500 with submission of expense receipts.

· Prior law enforcement experience will be considered “continuous service” for the purpose of vacation accrual.

· Candidates new to Multnomah County service will receive the equivalent of their entire first year of vacation (96 hours) and sick leave (104 hours) upon appointment in lieu of accruing leave during the first year of employment.

· Candidates new to Multnomah County service will receive Personal Holidays (up to 15 days) pro-rated and added to employee’s leave banks at time of hire.

· Additional incentives for successful candidates may be available.

To Qualify

Please be clear and specific on your application about dates of service, certifications you hold, and how your background is relevant to meet the requirements of this position.

Minimum Qualifications:

· Must be or have been within the past 12 months of application date, a certified civilian police sergeant or higher rank who has passed probation.

· At least eight (8) years of experience as a certified civilian police officer, which includes a minimum of four (4) years continuous experience in a position equivalent to the rank of a certified civilian police sergeant or higher, is required.

· A minimum of 90 quarter or 60 semester credits from an accredited college or university is required (equivalent to an associate’s degree).

· Must be eligible to be certified as a police officer in the state of Oregon upon hire.

· Must be a U.S. citizen.

· Must be at least 21 years of age.

· Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.

· Must possess a valid driver’s license by the time of appointment.

· Must pass a thorough background investigation which includes, but is not limited to a review of applicant’s criminal, civil, driving, military, educational, credit and employment history.

Preferred Qualifications:

You do not need to have the following preferred qualification to qualify. However, keep in mind we may consider the following when identifying the most qualified candidates.

· Current State of Oregon DPSST Law Enforcement Certification

· A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university

· Initial review of minimum qualifications

· Virtual Suitability Exam, which includes a virtual Personal History Questionnaire and records check

· Assessment center including a panel interview

· Background, reference, credit history and education checks (Personal History Statement completed online)

· Hiring Interview

· All hire offers are contingent upon successful completion of a psychological evaluation, a physical, and a drug screen. In addition, candidates who do not hold a bachelor’s degree will also need to complete a POST exam.
