Job Title: Custodian - Mulvane Recreation Commission
Job Description
Primary job function is to maintain the cleanliness of the MRC, including classrooms, lobby, gymnasium, program studios, fitness rooms, hallways, and community room.
Cleaning duties will include but are not limited to cleaning windows, restrooms, mopping, waxing, vacuuming, dusting, and sanitizing.
Check and maintain cleanliness and good working order of equipment.
Check the community room after MRC room rentals to ensure it's clean and ready for the next use.
Assist with programming as needed.
Flexibility to work different shifts and weekends as required.
Perform light maintenance tasks such as painting, using hand tools, unclogging toilets, hanging items on walls, etc.
Provide effective customer service to MRC patrons by answering questions, providing information on available programs, and explaining facility equipment.
Communicate effectively with patrons, co-workers, and the Director. Ensure the Director is aware of customer concerns.
Ensure walkways to and from MRC doorways are clear and safe for patrons, including spreading rock salt or similar products when icy and removing snow as needed.
Strip, wax, and polish tiled floors as necessary to maintain floor integrity.
Assist with all other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands:
Ability to stand for extended periods of time. Effective communication skills. Must be able to document accurately. Ability to move about with reasonable accommodation, including reaching, turning, twisting, touching, bending, kneeling, pushing, pulling, etc. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move objects short distances. Work is generally performed in an indoor, well-lighted, well-ventilated, climate-controlled environment.
Knowledge of:
Basic cleaning tools, Occupational hazards and safety precautions required. Principles and practices of custodial work.
Skills Required:
Providing efficient customer service and clear communication, both verbally and in writing. Organizing work tasks and prioritizing effectively, exercising independent judgment, wisdom, common sense, and initiative. Thoroughly following oral and written instructions. Using patience, tact, diplomacy, and courtesy in dealing with the public and employees. Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with various stakeholders. Applying safe work practices.
