Summary: We are seeking an experienced lawyer to join our legal team. This role is responsible for providing sound legal advice to management, adjusters, and examiners within the American Modern Claims team. The position will also collaborate closely with more senior attorneys to mitigate extra-contractual exposures. In addition to general corporate and insurance law responsibilities, this role will focus on claims-related legal matters, including litigation management, coverage analysis, and risk mitigation strategies.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal guidance and strategic support to claims management, adjusters, and examiners on complex claims-related legal issues.
  • Assist in preventing extra-contractual exposures by working closely with more senior lawyers and claims professionals.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate settlements, coverage opinions, and other claims-related agreements.
  • Conduct legal research and analysis to support claims handling decisions and risk management strategies.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements in claims handling.
  • Assist in managing and overseeing litigation involving insurance claims, including working with outside counsel.
  • Work under the direction of senior attorneys while exercising independent legal judgment and providing proactive legal solutions.
  • Engage with insurance industry regulators and support regulatory compliance efforts related to claims.


Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • 5 years of civil litigation experience, with a strong background in insurance defense.
  • Experience handling insurance claims, coverage disputes, and litigation management, experience with personal-lines products like residential, automobile, and/or watercraft claims a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of insurance law, reinsurance, and regulatory compliance.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide practical, business-oriented legal advice that balances legal risk with company objectives.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex legal topics effectively to different audiences.
  • Strong technical skills, including experience with the collection, review, and production of electronically stored information (ESI), together with a good working knowledge of artificial intelligence systems and Data Protection laws and regulations, are a plus.
  • Proven ability to develop productive relationships with claims professionals, senior attorneys, and compliance staff.
  • Experience interacting with insurance industry regulators.
  • High ethical standards and integrity.
  • This position is ideal for a legal professional with strong litigation and insurance defense experience, seeking to apply their expertise in a corporate setting to support claims management and risk mitigation.
  • In office requirement: 40-50%
