SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Sewage Treatment Plant Superintendent, operators are responsible for the operation of the Piney Fork Treatment Plant and Lick Run Pump Station.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform sludge pumping of digester and filter presses and be able to properly adjust flow control
- Accomplish minor plumbing and electrical work and assist the mechanic in the diagnosis and repair of plant equipment
- Upkeep of plant and grounds
- Operate the sludge truck and other vehicles as required
- Maintain accurate operation records including changing charts, reading meters and filling out checklists
- Perform analysis of plant outfall for reporting to regulatory agencies (PH, DO, chlorine residual, temperature)
- Perform complex mathematical computations and have a basic knowledge of hydraulics and chemistry as it relates to the function of the plant
- Performs other assigned tasks as required
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Ability to work the shift of Monday thru Friday, 2:30 pm – 11:00 pm, weekends, holidays, emergency callouts, snow callouts, and be available for overtime
- Must possess and continue to maintain a valid Pennsylvania Commercial driver's license, Class B, with air brake qualifications
- Must obtain and hold certification in Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and chlorine leak repair
- Ability to read and write English
- Must attend operators training courses, demonstrate capability and willingness to learn all plant operations and proceed towards obtaining a Pennsylvania Wastewater Operators Certification License in accordance with Pennsylvania DEP regulations, Teamsters 205 Contract, and obtain license within five years of appointment as a condition of continued employment
- Must attend continuing education classes to retain certification license
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or GED
- Selected applicants must reside within 15 air miles of the Municipality of Bethel Park, PA
- An understanding of and experience in the operation of the Sewage Treatment Plant to include the pump station and equalization tank is desired
- Certification and or completion of wastewater course work desired
- Possess and continue to maintain a valid Pennsylvania Commercial Driver's License, Class B or greater, or obtain within one year of employment
DRUG TESTING
Employment is contingent upon the results of a post-offer (initial employment) drug screen.
