Location: William G. Mather Elementary School (4 days/week = PK-5 & 1 day/week 6-12)
Deadline: Friday, February 14th, 2025 (or open until position is filled)
Salary: $41,322 - $65,000 w/ benefits (pay commensurate with experience and credentials)
Tentative Start Date: February 18, 2025 (or as soon as possible thereafter)
Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in an approved Social Work Program (for Social Worker applicants) or in an approved Counseling Program (for Counselor applicants).
- Valid Michigan certification as a K-12 School Guidance Counselor or a valid Michigan License for School Social Work (SSW).
- Desire to work with and serve students, families, and staff in a welcoming school environment.
- Ability to collaborate with staff, students, and families to support student growth and well-being.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
For School Social Worker Applicants:
- Assist at-risk students and families in obtaining community services and resources.
- Provide individual and group counseling sessions addressing conflict resolution, goal setting, social skills, and other identified student needs.
- Participate in student evaluations for special education, 504 plans, and general student support, preparing required reports and collaborating in meetings.
- Help create behavior intervention plans for students, offering positive intervention strategies and working with staff to implement them.
- Assist in crisis prevention and intervention planning and related activities.
- Serve on various student support teams within the district, working closely with administration, faculty, and community partners.
- Help students and families understand the importance of regular attendance and the benefits of in-person education.
- Lead and facilitate professional development for staff related to student mental health, behavior management, and other relevant topics.
- Other duties as assigned.
For School Guidance Counselor Applicants:
- Monitor student progress, provide guidance counseling, and work closely with teachers to identify and serve at-risk students.
- Provide individual and group counseling to support students' academic, career, and personal/social development.
- Assist students in identifying personal strengths, setting academic goals, and exploring career and post-secondary education options.
- Help students navigate social, emotional, and behavioral challenges that impact their ability to succeed in school.
- Coordinate and lead the development of individual education plans (IEPs) and 504 plans for students, collaborating with teachers, parents, and administrators.
- Implement programs designed to promote positive school climate, conflict resolution, and peer relationships.
- Advise students on personal issues, including relationships, family dynamics, and mental health concerns.
- Coordinate standardized testing (e.g., M-STEP & PSAT/SAT) and assist students with test preparation and career assessments.
- Support the school’s efforts to promote college and career readiness, including organizing college fairs and career exploration activities.
- Serve as a liaison between students, parents, and community agencies to provide support and resources.
- Participate in the school’s crisis response and support services, including emergency interventions and follow-up services.
- Monitor student progress, provide guidance counseling, and work closely with teachers to identify and serve at-risk students.
- Other duties as assigned.
