Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks is seeking a creative and dynamic New Media Specialist to join our Communications & Education (CommEd) team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to produce, plan, and develop engaging content for FWP’s social media platforms while helping tell the stories that support our mission.
This job is located in Montana’s capital city of Helena, which is a great and vibrant community of professionals who are passionate about the outdoors. It is centrally located in Montana – only a few hours away from Glacier National Park, Yellowstone National Park and some of the best state parks in Montana. Additionally, hunters and anglers will find some of the best opportunities in the state within 90 minutes of town.
Job Overview :
As the New Media Specialist, you will be responsible for selecting, producing, and acquiring compelling content for FWP’s social media channels. You will design static posts, edit short-form videos, write engaging copy, and ensure that all social media efforts align with FWP’s brand, mission, and communication goals. Additionally, you will help manage and guide FWP-associated social media channels, such as regional Facebook pages, to ensure cohesive messaging and content strategies.
Essential Functions :
- Content Creation & Management :
- Design high-quality static graphics and visual posts.
- Shoot, edit, and produce short-form videos tailored for various social media platforms and audiences.
- Write clear, engaging, and audience-appropriate copy that aligns with FWP’s goals and campaigns.
- Develop and maintain a strategic content calendar.
- Analyze social media trends and platform updates to optimize engagement and reach.
- Track and report on social media analytics to inform strategy adjustments.
- Work closely with CommEd staff to align social media content with overall communication objectives.
- Manage and guide FWP-associated social media accounts, including regional pages, to maintain consistent outreach.
- Respond to and engage with social media inquiries as needed.
- Compliance & Standards :
- Ensure content meets ADA accessibility guidelines and follows FWP brand standards.

Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience) :
Knowledge, skills and abilities are typically acquired through a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Internet Technology, Web Programming, Digital Communications, English, Business Administration, Marketing, Library Science; or related field and at least two years of job-related work experience in Communications, Graphic Design, Information Management, Journalism. Work experience should be focused on developing and writing web content, professional web-based content management including webpage layout, content and design; electronic / web publishing or web editing and content management and Internet research. Other combinations of experience and education will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
