MUSC Health Black River Medical Center is seeking skilled Physician Assistants or Nurse Practitioners to join their team of Emergency Medicine Advanced Practice Providers. Candidates will provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive healthcare services for patients in Cades, SC and the surrounding communities.
Job Description
The 64,000 sq. ft. rural hospital provides patients with a full range of modern diagnostic and interventional capabilities. Some of the services offered include 3-D mammography, MRI, nuclear medicine, CT scanning, on-site pharmacy, and a complete imaging department.
- The new facility features 25 inpatient beds, four observation beds, two operating rooms, and 16 emergency treatment rooms.
The new hospital serves Williamsburg and lower Florence counties.

Required Training and Experience
Candidates must have completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant or completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as an APRN.
APRN License Type/Certification
- AGPNP/ANP (Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner or Adult Nurse Practitioner): Adult pts (13 years to death), stable chronic disease state management or primary care setting.
- FNP (Family Nurse Practitioner): (birth to death) Stable chronic disease state management, primary care across the lifespan.
Required experience includes 2 years of Emergency Room Experience as an APP or graduation from an Emergency Room Fellowship.
Preferred Training and Experience
Preferred candidates should have a Physician Assistant (PA) or if APRN, License Type/Certification identified below:
- AGACNP or ACNP (Adult Gerontology Acute Care NP/Acute Care Nurse Practitioner): Adult pts (13 years to death), acutely ill or injured, potentially unstable, or technologically dependent (vents, drips, monitors, etc.).
- FNP with current Emergency Room Nurse Practitioner (ENP) Certification.
- AGPNP/ANP with current Emergency Room Nurse Practitioner (ENP) Certification.
If APRN, preferred candidates should have 4 years as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner in an Adult Emergency Department.
Job Duties
- Provides direct care to patients through taking comprehensive history and performing physical examinations.
- Evaluates and treats on the basis of history, physical examination, radiological, laboratory, and other diagnostic test results pursuant to the practice agreement or scope of practice guideline.
- Performs various therapeutic procedures in accordance with procedural privileges, skill, and proficiency as approved by the Clinical Division Chief.
Physical Requirements
This position requires continuous standing, walking, and sitting, as well as the ability to bend at the waist, kneel, climb stairs, reach in all directions, fully use both hands and legs, possess good finger dexterity, perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders, and maintain 20/40 vision corrected.
