Job Description

Summary

The Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations reports to the MUSC Foundation Vice President of Institutional Advancement. This role will identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward foundations and corporations for major gifts in support of the goals and priorities of MUSC. Key duties will also include working closely with Institutional Advancement and Foundation leadership, scientists, faculty, physicians, and others to clarify and articulate fundraising goals. Helps researchers advance basic science, clinical, and translational research priorities by assisting with proposal development and submission.

Manages a portfolio of major institutional funders and is responsible for meeting a series of annual associated performance metrics. Works with faculty members to submit proposals for grant support. In collaboration with the Institutional Advancement team, MUSC Foundation, ORSP and the office of external relations to identify corporate foundation giving opportunities, share grant opportunities with faculty, partnering on grant initiatives and deliverables.

Job Description

The Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations reports to the MUSC Foundation Vice President of Institutional Advancement. Responsibilities

25% Stewardship and Donor Management :

Lead all aspects of creating and submitting corporate and foundation grant proposals, including writing, preparation of supporting documentation, drafting and collection of required attachments which may, from time-to-time, include delegating to a consultant.

Develop individualized strategies for corporate and foundation prospects and donors that match funding priorities. Working closely with development officers, faculty, and others, oversees site visits for corporate and foundation donors / prospects. Arranges and participates in visits with corporations and foundations with leadership, as needed.

Conducts research to identify corporate and foundation prospects, for both the organization as a whole and for specific programs, projects and exhibits that align with the Institutions strategic direction.

25% Prospect and Solicit Corporate and Foundation Gifts :

Work in collaboration with the Institutional Advancement team, the office of research development, the office of sponsored research, and the office of external relations to identify foundation giving opportunities, share grant opportunities with faculty and partner on grant initiatives and deliverables. Participate in structured session with colleagues to coordinate prospect identification, engagement, strategy building, proposal development, solicitation ad follow-up. Work closely with development leadership, scientists, faculty, and physicians to clarify and articulate fundraising goals. Help researchers advance basic science, clinical and translational research priorities by assisting with proposal development and submission. Successfully manage a portfolio through sponsorships, grants, and / or executive education. Navigate complex nuances related to gifts and grants fund raising.

25% Collaboration and Communication :

Works closely with MUSC leadership, Health System CEOs, hospital administration and others to build visibility and enhance the MUSC brand for philanthropic efforts. Develop and discuss, strategic vision and $10M gift and grant opportunities with all levels of leadership.

Ensure that regular meetings with Deans, ICCE Chiefs, Department Chairs, Faculty and Development Officers in the Colleges and Health System conducted to identify new opportunities and ensure timely progress on priority projects.

Works collaboratively with the Constituent Engagement team to recommend and advise on the recognition of donors in both print and web-based publications, as well as impact reporting and extraordinary stewardship opportunities.

15% Data Management :

Responsible for the tracking and generation of reports on donor and gift information, including the appropriate recording of gifts and use of gifts. Conducts research and maintains in-depth knowledge of MUSC project and priorities. Ensures organizational compliance of gifts and grants against goals and objectives throughout the year.

10% Supervision and Management :

Responsible for the training and development of team members. Ensure that their assigned duties match those in their

Minimum Requirements

Ability to work with and earn the respect of faculty, scientists, physicians, and senior administrators. Excellent analytical skills, oral and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal and project management skills. Ability to prioritize and work independently and in collaboration with multiple teams in response to requests from multiple individuals and departments. Ability to manage sensitive and confidential matters with appropriate discretion.

Training and Education

Bachelor's degree 5 years of fund raising in a complex development organization. Master's degree or the equivalent preferred.

Creative, professional, and enterprising spirit desirable. Writing and communications experience in higher education or a non-profit environment preferred. Experience in an academic medical center setting or basic sciences environment preferred. Experience preferably in foundation and corporate relations or the equivalent. Experience with Blackbaud or other data entry software

Master's degree or the equivalent preferred.
