Job Description
The Nuclear Medicine Technologist plays a crucial role in assisting physicians during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. This involves preparing patients, operating nuclear medicine equipment, and administering radiopharmaceuticals to obtain high-quality diagnostic images or provide therapy as ordered by the physician.
Key Responsibilities
- Performing quality care for pediatric through adult patients using professional judgment and critical thinking skills
- Administering radiopharmaceuticals and medications according to physician orders
- Operating nuclear medicine equipment to obtain diagnostic scans
- Maintaining patient safety and comfort throughout the procedure
Education and Certification
Graduate of an ARRT or NMTCB recognized Nuclear Medicine Program is required. The ideal candidate must be a Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT) from the NMTCB or Registered Technologist (RT (N)) from ARRT, or registry eligible. If registry eligible, certification must be obtained within 12 months. Licensure from the South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Association (SCRQSA) is also required. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is mandatory.
